Cardas Sweeper Record ???

Post by k_numigl »

I was preparing to record Water Plants for a friend, when a white
LP cover came into my sight, including a so called Cardas Sweeper
record. It contains just varying frequencies. Not expecting much of it,
I said to myself: it's only ten minutes to try it out, and so I did.
Surprisingly it made an immediately evident difference. To the
better.

Has anyone tried this record? And how is it supposed to work? There's
no explanation coming with it. Is it intended to play it frequently?
Does it affect the pickup or the cables or the amps?

Seems to be another mystery, similar to degaussing records (what
I did in the very moment).

My version is obviously somewhat more ancient and contains less
features. The info coming with the new one is appreciated much,
thanks. I still find it striking that just playing a track of increasing
frequencies can alter the sound (of what: cartridge, connectors,...?).
So does my system remember what I listen to? Has playing hot jazz
a different effect than cello solo for example? I read a number of
comments regarding this record as a gimmick, but from what I experienced
it is certainly the opposite. The character changed similar to the
installation of a Dynamik. (DS owners can obtain the recording before/after
from me.)
Similar to you I had put the record aside for a long time.
