Changing system
Hello
As many of you may know for my other thread (Budget system) i have been looking around to build a budget system for a close friend.
Well, maybe Charlie1 had the guilty ;), but i got the upgrade bug, because i come across with a guy who is thinking on selling:
LinnExotic
Linn TuneBox
2xklout
2xav5125
Aktiv Keltiks
Maybe is time to sell my current system (kairn pro+klout+espeks) to my friend and get that used one for myself.
I think i will be a huge upgrade, right¿?
What about selling my system with one of those av5125 and keep 3xklouts and 1xav5125?
There is any thoughts on if klout would be better on that system than av5125?
Thank you in advance

This definitely sounds like a good upgrade but I would suggest a third option:
Buy the system, keep the three Klouts and sell both the 5125s. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, you can run the Keltiks with just three amps (although four are better) and Klouts are certainly one of the best amps to do it with. Second, I am not generally thrilled with running an Aktiv system with different amps. Although it can work somewhat as a temporary solution it is really best to have the same musical qualities running all the drivers in Aktiv systems. Third, I don't really feel the 5125 is a better amp, or even as good an amp, as the Klout. Since you normally want the best amp on the tweeters and then on the midrange it means you would end up with the 5125 on the bass drivers. 5125s really aren't optimal for driving Keltik bass drivers. So it is not a good solution.
So I would keep the Klouts, drive the Keltiks with three amps and keep an eye out for a fourth Klout. Since a Tune Box is part of the system it will have mono cards in it so you will also be able to put the Aktiv cards inside the Klouts and simplify the signal path.

Hi Thomas, thanks for the reply
Yes, keeping my klout seems a good idea. maybe my friend likes Kairn+2xav5125+espek
There are lots of info i dont know about aktiv systems.
As you say, the klout seems to be better amplifier, and putting those mono cards inside the klouts would simplify (one less box and less cables) the setup and i think it would sound better.
The monocards on the tunebox are compatible with all linn amplifiers? Im asking becasue 2 are av5125, and i thought i would have different aktiv cards than klouts. If thats right, i would have to go hunt for one or two aktiv mono card for the klout

I used to play music via Keltiks, 4 Klouts, and a Tunebox (slimline
Power Supply) for a long time. I took the cards _out_ of the amps because
of the sound improvement.
With the Keltik, 4 Klouts are so much better than 3. The addition frees
up the entire music, it is not about improving the bass only. I was
amazed when I heard it first. (And as always, having heard it once
with the better solution makes you aware of the lacking bit every time
you hear the more modest setup - at least that's how my brain (?) is
working.)

Yes the tunebox will be compatible with any amplifier.DeQMaster wrote:Hi Thomas, thanks for the reply

You only need two 5125s to drive Keltiks, you wouldn't need any klouts.
Again different opinion but 5125 s sounded better than klouts to me, especially with a Dynamik fitted.
The early 5125s did suffer from problems with high volumes on keltik bass units. Linn offered a small modification which went a long way to rectifying this. The Dynamik does really improve the 5125
I should qualify my earlier post by saying that I was referring to original 5125s. The Dynamik is indeed a big improvement musically and also improves the drive capability of the 5125s considerably. I haven't heard the comparison of a 5125/Dynamik vs. a Klout personally so I can't say for sure but my guess is that I would prefer the 5125s in this case. I did find the 5125s to do some things better than the Klout but not to be overall superior and they didn't have the grunt to really power the Keltik woofers all that well. Since the Dynamik should take care of this and improve the music as well you might want to go the other way (keep the 5125s and sell the Klouts) if you are willing to have the Dynamiks installed in them.
If you want to sell the Linn Tunebox by itself...
Dear DeQMaster,
If you want to sell the Linn Tunebox by itself (and keep the Aktiv cards) I would be most interested.

Orlando
