Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
And so the reveal, on Christmas Day no less!!!!!
Section A was Ella Fitzgerald played on my LP12 (See my signature) through Entity 1.1 through Giella into:
MERRY = JBL 308s
CHRISTMAS = TUNDRA 2.0/MAJIK 109s
Section B was Ella & Louis played on my LP12 through ? into Giella into JBL 308s:
HAPPY = ENTITY 1.1
NEW YEAR = LINTO
Section C was Marvin Gaye played on my LP12 through Entity 1.1 through ? through JBL 308s:
LEJONKLOU = KISTO
FORUM = GIELLA
Please note that in the KISTO/GIELLA comparison it was trickier to get the sound levels equal due to the different volume controls. Additionally, Van Damme XLR cables were used for Kisto but I had to add RCA adaptors to the Van Damme's for use in Giella. Not exactly completely fair test but hey :)
Thanks for listening :)

Very interesting discodave
I did listen before knowing the result
Preferred Tundra/109s, Entity and Kisto
Entity was the biggest gap for me. Miles better than Linto

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Darn. Just realising that I could have used adaptors with Kisto too!!! Would have been fairer, more interesting.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Here we have,
1) Kairn then Linto then Lp12 plugged in that order.
2) Linto Kairn LP12
3) Kairn LP12 Linto
4) Kairn Linto in one distribution block and lp12 plugged straight into double socket shared with distribution block.
All Lingo 1
Not in that order,but might be.

RELAXIN' isn't.
STEAMIN' is a bit off the boil.
WORKIN' just works..
COOKIN' is.

COOKING' does it for me. But what's most striking is how invisible the influence of the JBL ADC/DAC is. I experienced the same unimpeded clarity with my Rega P9. The engineering by JBL is masterful.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Cookin' would be my choice, it moves along effortlessly and my feet start tapping without me noticing it.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
for me it is between Workin’ and Cookin’ and Cookin’ has an advantage over Workin‘
so Cookin’ is what I would keep
so Cookin’ is what I would keep
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Cookin!
Workin is good too, but has a funny angle on the music right from the start. I picture the drummer in front of me and he’s spot on tight on Cookin. When I change to Workin it’s like he’s making fun of the song, being ”a little crazy” in his playing.
The other two both felt weird and I wanted to switch them off.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I am impressed by the JBL 308 it was an wonderfull example about their capabilities. They seem to be a little far away from the back wall in your setup but it obviously works well. Have you tried them closer to the wall?
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I've just plonked 308s down Defender.I want to put my Ninkas out of the room but haven't decided on where will be safe as they're technically not mine now, so somewhat paranoid about someone marking them, accidentally of course.Will probably wait untill their custom boxes arrive .Any advice on box spec?
I will be trying them close to wall .

Workin' is OK but isn't workin' very hard.
Steamin" isn't. Somebody forgot to turn the boiler on.
Relaxin' isn't relaxin' to listen to but sounds like the musicians might have been relaxin' a bit too much.
But Cookin' cooks! I liked it from the beginning and listened to the end.

I’d be curious which recording was done first before unplugging things.
