I remembered that The Orb took an interview with her to create their song "Little fluffy clouds"... there you can hear her talking. (If you have Spotify, it's there.)lejonklou wrote:When she tells her story in that film, notice what a special voice she has when talking. Her singing voice, with its abscence of vibrato, is also very special, but the two sound completely different. I met and talked to her once and her voice was just like in that movie.

K.D. Lang: Hymns of the 49th parallell
I was given Hymns of the 49th parallell last winter and now I am hearing it this spring afternoon home with a cold. Sneeze :?
Anyway what she did was sing great songs by Canadian singers, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Ron Sexsmith and Jane Siberry

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Siberry
I only knew that Cohen was Canadian and have most of his albums. It was interesting to find out that they were all from Canada. But listening to Blue with Joni Mitchell you can hear it if you listen to the lyrics I Need a River to Skate on and A Case of You.

You reminded my Per. I've just ordered Changing of the Seasons on LP. Look forward to a proper listen rather than YouTube.
Been quite enjoying this guy's LP 'Hand Built By Robots'

Bruce Cockburn 'In The Falling Dark' (1976).

This is one of my favourite artists, it's something about the tone he strikes that feels right to me. I've seen him once in concert and it was absolutely fantastic. Tried desperately to get an interview with him, and as I was able to get an article published in a magazine I thought it would be easy. But his manager-on-the-road refused to let me near him. There was almost no coverage in the press...
His records and songs aren't all great. But some of them are and currently, this album is my favourite.

Had a YouTube visit for this one and will definitely purchase a copy as it sounds right up my street.Lejonklou wrote:Bruce Cockburn 'In The Falling Dark' (1976).
I've had to resort to a new fandangled technological leap forward called 'Compact Disk' these past weeks (zero distortion don't ya know). Anyway, I've been enjoying the following. It's quite accessable - which it needs to be in my car if its going to last more than 2 minutes: -

Thanks for that Troll. Enjoying it very much. Couldn't find a copy of 'The Falling Dark' but will keep an eye out.
Latest 'Kings of Leon' is good if that's your bag.
Bought 'Fleet Foxes' debut last week, but not listened yet. Seeing them at Isle of White amongst others in Sept: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-CEfY9CDLw

Glad you like it - I still enjoy listening to it after 20 years. Another of his that I like as much is Nothing But A Burning LightCharlie1 wrote:Thanks for that Troll. Enjoying it very much.

Tempted to try the Fleet Foxes too, after seeing them on the BBC a couple of weeks ago (Glastonbury?)
Not listening to anything at the moment - my KDS went back to the factory yesterday for its Dynamik. Our Unidisk 1.1 lasted for 3 tracks before we switched it off!

I think that one was available hear and there also so will most likely pick up a copy shortly.Moomintroll wrote:Another of his that I like as much is Nothing But A Burning Light
I quite enjoyed being without music recently - at least for a couple of weeks. Caught up on some reading instead. But then began to really miss it. Presume your Dynamik won't take too long though. Hope to hear what you think of it.Moomintroll wrote: Not listening to anything at the moment - my KDS went back to the factory yesterday for its Dynamik. The Milcho Leviev Quartet - Blues for the Fisherman
Although I am still having some slight doubts about my Radikalised LP12, it sometimes sounds just unbelievably good (and then some records just feel mysteriously flat, hence the doubt). On this record, some passages almost knocked me out. I had to play it twice in a row!
You mentioned problems getting into jazz earlier, Charlie. Could this do anything for you?
Nice review here: http://www.answers.com/topic/blues-for-the-fisherman

I will try it out. I haven't looked properly enough into jazz, althouhg Leo has helped for sure. I have very much enjoyed 'Time Out' by Dave Brubeck. I need to get that Soulville LP too and have Blue Train on order as I was impressed by Blue Note pressings even if this will be a digital remaster I'm sure.lejonklou wrote:The Milcho Leviev Quartet - Blues for the Fisherman

Yes, I get that unexpected flatness very occasssionally, but it comes across as just a boring song/bored musicians and presume that's just how it really is.
