Enclosed Stand Advice

Post by rowlandhills »

Almost all of the advice on here regarding stands only seems to cover open shelves. With a two year old daughter around, I need to get an enclosed rack which can take my ADS, Kinos, two 5125s and a Tunebox. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Quadraspire has come out with a series called the Qube which should take care of your needs. You can check them out at their website:

They are attractive and reasonably priced and they sound pretty good as well - not as good as the Q4 but not that far behind either. The Qubes can be stacked for more capacity and can be bolted together top to bottom or side by side. A standard Hi-Fi unit comes with two shelves allowing it to hold three units internally and additional shelves are available if you want closer spacing. You would probably need two of them to house all your components unless you were comfortable in putting one on the top. They also have optional doors and even locks available if you need them. You may need to go with the XL versions to have enough space inside if you are going to use the doors.

When my kids were small I did this...

Buy a large cupboard, make a hole in the bottom and a few holes in the back (for ventilation, power/speaker cables) and simply put the cupboard OVER the HIFI stand like a hat.
= great protection without compromising sound quality.
It's all about musical understanding!

That's a definite possibility, ML!

Thomas - What do you think of these:

I'm tempted to get a double width unit, as it would fit better with the look of the room.

Sorry, I just noticed I hadn't replied to this. I have not been able to listen to the QK myself but my understanding is that it is musically a step below the Qube products. I believe the intention is to release a double-wide Qube AV as a replacement for the QKAV but last I heard they were still playing around with different door designs. I think that Hi-Fi House has some of the prototypes on display and we had an early prototype here for a while which seemed quite nice - a bit more solid than the QKAV and good sounding. I don't know how soon they will end up in distribution.

In the mean time you can get the same amount of storage by getting two Qube units and bolting them together side by side. I believe this would be better musically as well.
