Listening to Beatles on vinyl

Post by beck »

I am having a great time listening to my Beatles records and have within my analog system made some observations.
My Beatles analog mono records are far superior to any of my digitally remastered stereo counterparts in delivering a far more natural sound.
My first generation digitally remastered stereo Beatles records makes a brave attempt but fails in the end and my second generation digitally remastered stereo is like listening to my first generation records with too much "lipstick" on.
I can enjoy them all but it is painfully clear to me that you have to get as close as possible to the original analog recordings to get the most natural result.
System wise I would maybe try the same thing if possible. As few components between the record and the speakers as possible. Speakers without crossover next thing on the list? :-)

Audience Clearaudient together with Lejonklou anyone!?

The greatest impact on musicality is at the source and the speaker crossover is far from it.

Yes, you are right and that is why the recording is important.

The clip that makes you want to go on listening is the analog mono vinyl. The other is my first generation digitally remastered stereo.

The second clip is a fair bit louder so perhaps not a fair comparison.

Anyway, I enjoyed the first clip more.

Then you should get copies of the first generation digitally remastered Beatles records. :-)

I actually thought this one was a no brainer and didn't expect any answers on the clips. Ha, I fooled myself on that one.

How I hear it:

Take a listen to the timing of the tamborine in the first clip at 0.18, 0.31, 0.44 and on. It stands out a bit like Ringo had to count very carefully to get it right (maybe it was Yoko Ono!).
In the second clip it just "goes with the flow". To me the second clip is more like being in the studio together with the band.

I know we are trying to split hairs but I actually find the mono clip to be a great example what I love to listen to. I can relax and float away.........

I would be interested in your opinion on my last Beatles clips in the "playground" tread. The subject being almost the same.

Are we supposed to be comparing them? Why have you recorded them from different positions?

The second one sounds less like a human playing the guitar, like the notes are perfectly spaced, too perfect. But maybe that's down to the different recording positions.

Just a useless post about me being in love with the distorted sound. :-) Nothing to compare. Sorry.
