Yes, but in 90% of all chips PCM is converted to DSD anyway.

Yes, in theory.

Thanks for the OP Thomas, interesting to read your thoughts.

Looks like you have reached your own conclusion based on much experience with different systems and configurations. I have to say that it is very much an opinion though, and is completely opposite to my own conclusions. To me, even the very best of analogue is not as musical as a decent digital system - it sounds too relaxed, rounded off so to speak, and often lacking in subtleties that digital brings. Plus, the massive speaker errors that Exakt corrects for are a revelation which puts tweaking with volume controls and power amps into the shade.

Each to their own of course!

I fear that this thread may not end well.

IMO, there is a convergence in perceived performance and costs between the best analog and digital playback systems.
The source-first principle rules both in the analog and the digital domain as well.
So it is not surprising that price and attention to detail of the best servers approach that of a Klimax LP12.
The best digital source I have heard so far was the SGM 2015 from Sound Galleries Monaco together with HQPlayer and Roon, all music files upsampled to DSD512 and delivered via USB to a german DAC.
Interestingly enough the pathway from the DAC downstream was pure analog.

Hi...i am a new user here.It would be great to have all my music in the best possible format - which sounds like it is analogue master tape to good quality vinyl pressing, and a great playback system, but the reality is that if one were to insist on this - the range of music available would be quite limited. The advantage of having both playback systems is the sheer variety of really great music available in all formats.

Agreed.

Best is to have great vinyl and digital playback systems - still have a lot of work to do on the vinyl side of things but Majik lp12 very enjoyable as it is.
