Listened to ATC aktiv 40 vs passive 40.
The passive setup was totally unfamiliar to me, rather exotic speaker cables and interconnect s. What did surprise me was the similarity between the two systems, taking into account a massive difference in power amp and cabling. Apparently the amp had been selected to represent a similar price bracket.
I did prefer the passive speakers, but was amazed at the price point in the majik isobariks range.
Next the ATC 50 aktiv vs passive, an ATC preamp was used and a rather large Nu Vista power amp, this time I preferred the aktiv version. Later the Nu was replaced with an ATC power.
The 50s are considerably better than the 40s.
I always remember the pleasant mid produced by these speakers some 20 years ago and it was still present. Surpringly it was the bass reproduction I found very different
The 242s certainly disappoint when I returned home.
I did not wish to encroach too much on the dems, as others were present and potential buyers, hence the limited knowledge on amps etc. Would love to hear the 50s with kds and Lejonklou. Interestingly CD was the source.
Thanks to James of DB hi fi and Ben of ATC, who coincidentally was 3 years below Phil Budd at university and Phil used help out with the mathematics at tutorials.

Re: ATC Event
thanks for the notes Anthony
When you suprised that the ATC40 as in the Majik Isobarik price range, were you saying the ATC seems good value or poor value compared to MIso?
