Old and cheap

I was one day late from buying a pair of 242 (mk1) for 1600 Euros.
After the 242 failure I felt sorry for myself. And what helps more than buying new speakers.
A very nice pair of Ninka’s bought second hand in Edinburgh (!).
I didn’t believe they were so much better than Keilidhs – but they are!
I have even read about someone who sold his Ninka’s to go back to Keilidh’s - big mistake IMO.
Here is a preliminary setup iphone picture. Some cablework to do

If I'm not mistaking, the cat is laying on the pillow. By the way, is your tweak the wood stick placed between speaker and wall? I just saw on the Linn forums where that tweak was used, and provided a noticeable improvement.Linntek wrote:Tweak of the week!
(Can anyone spot an animal in the second pic?)
I would try that tweak, but my walls are made of gypsum board. According to the information, it only works on solid wall material such as block walls, brick walls or stone walls.

Yep! A cat - in a "Fatboy"
And yes - wood stick.

Where to start..
During last summer I decided to reduce boxcount and do some upgrading and enter the Linn streaming world. I started to get rid of all the old stuff that I didn't use and eventually what i did use. My Tunebox and Aktiv cards where gone so I played passiv. Unfortunately my sale stopped and I was not able to raise funds to go further. My goal was some Majik amplification and I've found some Chakra cards. I decided to put the Chakra cards in my Klout and stick with the old stuff. I had some Chakra/monoadapters bought a long time ago so it should pretty easy to do - but it wasn't. The Chakra cards I've got was the old style and didn't fit my monoadapters. The cards had the white "old style" connector so i tried to mount them (after studyin the circuit) in my Klouts but i didn't work. They went in protection mode due to some DC from the cards at startup. The power up mute system was not present on the Chakra cards (it was placed on the monoadapters) but I gave it a shot. I let i go and played passiv - until now...
I sat down and did some RE and here is the story...
The workplace:

RE of the mute circuit

Original cards befor mods.
Note the old white connector - the same as on the old monocards.

I mounted the filter caps on the other side of the board so they didn't take up so much space. It was the only way they would fit in the adapters

Aften having a good look at some of the newer cards (on the net) and based on the RE I found that the muting circuit needed Vss and Vdd from the Chakra card.

Chakra cards now mounted on the monoadapters

After some cable dressing they fit the Klout

And you know what - it works!
And found myself not listening to music that often after i went passiv.
Now I'm back...
I have not yet figured out how the gain settings work. The settings that can't be reached after they are mounted in the Klout is set to position 3 (0dB) but I found it sounded best if I set the level on the adapters, that can be reached, to 4 (+1dB).
It doesn't make sense but I think it sounded best

with LK 100 ?
Hi Linntek,
I own same chakra cards as yours, but miss inforation about the connector pinout. Can you help me since you may know it ?
Other question is linked to the white "test" connector: can it be used with the 5 wire (brown, red, orange, yellow, green) connection usually used in the Linn amps ? What is its pinout on the Chakra module ?
Last question: are mono adapter boards mendatory to use Chakra modules in a LK100 ?
With many thanks for your kind reply!

Chakra cards
-----------------------------------------------
. 1 3 5 7 9 11
. 2 4 6 8 10 12

----------------------------------------------
Pin 3 Input
Pin 6 Output
Pin 8 GND
Pin 9 Vss -
Pin 11 Vdd +
This how i recall but it is a long time ago and I might be wrong - >>>warning<<<
But the mute circuit and power supply is on the mono adapters. As I remember the supply voltage to the Chakra cards was +- 12Vdc
They give quite a "bump" with out mute circuit and the protection circuit in the amp kicks in - in my Klout it did.
The white 5 pin connector - I think - was a try from linn put them i older amps. The problem is that the supply voltage in the 5 pin connector is to high for Chakra cards.
The connections are the same.
Please be carefull - I might be wrong.

Hey ! thanks for the instant answer !!
I checked with the white connector P201, and I the pinout corresponds to the one you're describing for P200 connector.
I know Brown, red, orange, yellow and green wires and the pinout on the white connector.
If I go from GND to GND between your P200 connector description and the "old amps" GND pin on the white connector, it maches. It matches for all the pins you described.
I confirm your pinout is ok, good memory !!
So many thanks for the information. Now I have to check for the voltage because only +/- 40V and +/- 30V are available on the LK 100... I'll have to make a small 12V pover supply from a 30V source in the amp.
