Linn & High Standbye power consumption?

Hello,

i was very surprised to notice that a amp like 2200 in standbye mode consumes 16W!?
It is very high! Could you confirm?

Firstly Happy New year all ye audio people of taste!

Secondly this standby issue on 2200s and similar does raise a couple of questions.
At present I do not switch mine off - mainly because I cannot be bothered to reach behind my stack every time. So it is left on standby. And as soon as I play some music, it kicks out of sleep mode, and sings.

But if the sleep mode is meant to keep the amplifier warm and at peak performance - to my ears - it fails. After an hour of actually passing current to the speakers, the whole system sounds much better. I also found this to be so when I had a 2100.

I appreciate that this may be the fault of my Magik Preamplifier, but I suspect it is most likely to be the power amplifier.

Do other 2200 amplifier owners have similar experiences??
If I kept my power amp normally switched off, would it sound just as nice after an hour's warm up from completely cold?

...i think so!,
but it also depends on whether you listen to the music or your amplifier :-). If the second one than you my start believing in some differences that might be there or might not.
...the easiest way to find it out is to try it.,
i keep my amps off, ...2 monos pure class A, valves and etc., they need to warm up but after switching them on i just go to make myself a cup of tea.

16W is quite good actually! I borrowed a PS Audio P5 recently and it indicated a load of > 100W for my 2 Tundras plus KDS/1 & KK/1. Curiously it was the same load out of standby and playing music (at not high volumes) as it was in standby. I'm not 100% convinced I trust those measurements...

16W is quite high, by today's standards. My A350As are ... 75W on standby though :D Guess how often I leave them on standby ;)

In my case the remote switching socket did the trick. One click and no matter how big stack of amps you've got, it's off. I'm sure audio purists would say these switches are killers of sound but ... I can't hear the difference with them or without ;)

Not relevant imho.

How much energy are you consuming each day?
How much of THIS can you save?
Can you change your way of living? (public transport or take your bike to work, not using your car)
I'm quite sure 16W is a rather small portion...

Besides, just turn off the HIFI if you want to save energy.
Or stop buying electronics as manufacturing/transport consume quite a lot of energy.

Sorry but i expect from modern electronics lower consumptions, even more for standye mode. I don't want to turn off my amp, question of easy of use.
I guess standard for amps which are not class A or tubes technologies consume less than 16W!
