I have a late Kairn Pro SMPS feeding my Klout and espeks.
I have been offered an av5105. IN therms of sound quality is that noticeable?
Are we talking about day/night difference?
Thanks!

It depends on the age of the 5103. I had an early model (s/n 14**) and that sounded very similar to the Kairn Pro it replaced.
I then replaced this 5103 with a much later model which sounds significantly better.
Like you I started with Klout+Espeks, so if the 5103 is a late model (2001 or later) then you can expect a big improvement over the Kairn, and well worthwhile.

I used to have a Kairn Pro (with the SMPS), which I replaced, six years ago with a 5103 (blue display). In my view, much better. Not the best upgrade I've ever had, but definitely worthwhile.
Another useful feature of the 5103, at least for some systems, is that it has digital inputs. I find that for my (relatively cheap) DVD player and Squeezebox Receiver, using the 5103's DAC sounds rather better than the devices' audio outputs.
