A week ago I tried the small table (Yggdrasil) for switches made by Tonläget in Gothenburg. I knew that the switch is the most important part of the digital side of the DS digital players, but I was quite surprised to hear how much better it was to put the switch on the table instead of on my dedicated wall-mount shelf.
Today I spent a couple of hours making my own support, just to see if it was difficult making anything better by myself. I had a couple of 30 mm MDF pieces in my garage so I gathered some small nuts, plastic distances that I also found and set to work piling the MDF pieces on top of each other and the switch on top while doing tune-dem using a couple of songs. There where clear differences and I found a combination of four MDF board with different pieces inbetween each layer. LEGO pieces underneath the bottom board, plastic distances underneath the second and the third board and finally the small nuts between the third MDF board and the top board. I also found that the way the different cables where arranged around the switch also made a significant difference. I will try to post some pictures if you are interesed.
It would be interesting to compare the Tonläget shelf with the one I have come up with. Mine do not look very smart but the price where more attractive (made by garbage).
Have many of You tried this yourself and what did you find? If you have not tried to optimise these parts of your set-up I would recommend you to do so. It made a difference well worth the effort.

Thanks for the report, hcl!
I haven't done anything similar to this, just moved around switches and NAS'es on different supports and tried arranging cables in various ways. All made tiny but clear differences. In summary well worth the effort.
I suspect you've already noticed how some cables prefer being rolled up (the one from the power supply to switch) while others sound best hanging loose. The end result might very well end up like the mess in your photo :), so I find it necessary to hide it all away.

Yes, I have tried various cable arrangemens and they do make some differences, but I have not enough experience to make any recommendations yeat. I will try your suggestion though.lejonklou wrote:I suspect you've already noticed how some cables prefer being rolled up (the one from the power supply to switch) while others sound best hanging loose. I also find it necessary to keep these stuff out of site from my wife. She is nt too keen on cables. :-)
