Sorry, beck. No word is safe. (And I can even argue I'm back on topic.)

"Help me Obi-markit Kenobi, you're my only moderator."
Becktrooper: Let me see some moderation
Obi-markit Kenobi: (with a small wave of his hand) You don't need to see any moderation.
Becktrooper: We don't need to see any moderation.
Whoa...new(ish) Flo! Where the H-E-double ski poles have I been the past two years?!

It’s that live feeling…………….
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Maybe we could all celebrate the “playground” soon getting past 1 million views by posting a clip of our systems playing a favorite artist or track?
Or maybe someone has a better idea?
Markiteight could write a speech about how hard the job as moderator is! :-)

great idea - I will be part of it just need to warm up everything
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Here is my “1 million views” celebration of “the playground”.
Same artist in three different productions (1997, 2000 and 2005).
1997: link removed
2000: link removed
2005: link removed
This last one is HDCD but I think I can hear the copy protection meddle with the sound. What a shame.
All tracks sung by Randi Laubek.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I would...if I could, but our forum members are (for the most part) far too civil to each other. I mean, come on people! Don't you know this is an internet forum? You're supposed to bicker and argue, troll, nitpick, and negate everything everyone says. y'all need to try harder!
Or not. ;-)
A big thank you goes out to you, the members here who have cultivated an oasis from the usual internet chest beating and hot air. And thank you, beck, for giving us what might be the most important and useful posts on the forum.
Cheers!
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Blimey, it shoots up doesn't it? It was about 500 short earlier but a couple of hundred more views already. I thought you were being a bit premature but at this rate it won't be long.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Can the forum software views counter cope with 7 digits, or do we have a y2k risk here? Stop viewing the thread else the sky may fall... :-o
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Visions of everyone hitting refresh to claim the millionth view and prize that goes with it :)
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
The moment has passed. Views reaching 1000237 as I write.
Thank you markiteight for the nice words. It is a collective effort to create such a useful forum. Thank you to Lejonklou for letting us do it.
Cheers markiteight and cheers to all making contributions! :-)
I will close this post with another danish artist. Enjoy the music!

I think that copy protection is ruining at lot of good recordings. Digital has great potential but real world problems makes it difficult.....

Said it before, but say it again, this thread is something unique and has been invaluable to me and hopefully others too.
Enjoyed that - thanks.beck wrote: ↑2021-04-11 03:24 I will close this post with another danish artist. Enjoy the music!

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
The advantage of buying second hand is that it is possible to avoid. On some new cd’s it is printed on the cover that they are copy protected.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I like the tunefulness of the top clip and the togetherness of the bottom clip.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Clearly prefer the bottom clip.....

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Played through my headphones on my laptop, I prefer the second clip. The first sounds muddied in comparison, and I wanted to keep listening to the second.markiteight wrote: ↑2021-04-14 20:29 Messing about with the digital setup:

Played through my phone speakers I can't hear a difference in sound, but the second is still more engaging.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Think we've been here before but wanted to do clips again as I'd installed the deck straight on the wall shelf due to lack of LACKs and it sounded good to me.
Wallshelf (Sound Org with Archidee shelf):

All Lack:

Hard to beat Tukans in terms of value for money. £150 off ebay for a mint pair a couple of years ago with original boxes. My spare Kan 2's have a lot more detail and openness but there's not enough bass in this room and the Tukans are perhaps more tuneful.I should probably try the Tukans away from the rear wall a bit. Might have found so decent Saras though.
Controversial, but I prefer this deck with Ekos 2 than Ekos SE. The SE was a clear upgrade when I had the Keel but with black liner bearing and old single layer steel subchassis, the Ekos 2 seems better suited to me for some reason. Can't be 100% sure but that's my suspicion.
Krystal does track well - this smartphone (or the PC I'm using) seems to exacerbate any sibilance.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I get more out of the Lack clip. The wallshelf clip 'sounds' cleaner, but I don't get as much out of the music...
