Great, one issue less ...Charlie1 wrote: ↑2021-09-29 13:30 If I'm honest, I can't get anything in that room to sound as good as it used to. Can't blame the power and more people charging their cars cos the office sounds great, for what it is anyway. The bedroom is fine too, although the Troika deck is less tuneful to my ears. This is the best I can get although not tried the Adikt deck.

This is somewhere between ...Charlie1 wrote: ↑2021-09-30 09:43 The study was never being used that much and now the kids are older, I can promote the system to the living room. Solid concrete floor with carpet. External rather than internal rear wall.
L2 now cos not 100% sure the CB amps play nicely with the L1 even with filter removed.
Kan stands just plonked for now

Re: Charlie1's System
So room switch from study to living room, following deck switch from Karma to Troika, and ps from L1 to L2? Not to mention DM back to BGs... It's a bit like a game of Cluedo - I don't think I'm winning, but hope you are Charlie1 :)

Very nice indeed! You’ve managed to blend musicality with finesse, producing a very easy listen. I think I’ll move my system from in between the speakers tomorrow!Charlie1 wrote: ↑2021-09-30 13:28 Sorry, it has been a lot to contend with.

Re: Charlie1's System
Thanks for the feedback gents.
Spannko, not sure your one box system is having much negative impact but look forward to the clips ;)
It's funny, I thought of your listening room today in that it reminds me of the same calmness, without sounding dead. I assume yours has solid concrete beneath the carpet too.

Re: Charlie1's System
Well, guess my call from the start that the Karma is a keeper came through. :-)
I like it.

Re: Charlie1's System
Sorry, these recent clips are all the Troka deck - I should have been clearer. I've put the Karma deck up in the office for now where it continues to confuse me somewhat. There doesn't seem any point going back to a VM95E now cos the Karma does play music and the 95 is not without it's obvious shortcomings either.
I didn't feel that any system was doing it for me in the study anymore. Don't know why. Hopefully it's just my expectations have gone up and not something else.

I think you are a bit quick here. :-)
He has not decided about the Karma yet…….and I am glad that I liked his Troika…….again.

Re: Charlie1's System
What do folks think of concrete floored hifi rooms? It's calmer, clearer, but maybe a bit of lifelessness creeping in.. One big advantage if using a vintage / coloured system is that the nasties are kept to a very minimum. I reckon suspended floors exacerbate sibilance, peaky Kef B110 drive units, etc.
Re: Charlie1's System
Over the course of my music loving life, my stereo has stood on just about every floor there is in the area. Pure wood floors with ash concrete between ceiling joists, laminate, wood planks and concrete floors carpeted. A few years ago I put a stone floor in my living room. I can not say that this makes a relevant difference. It is now better to clean underneath the racks.
Only moving floors, especially when turntable is on a table on the floor, movement is at times audible or blatant, the arm jumps.
Since I use the Mana system floating floors are not suitable. To mitigate this a bit I had stone plates cut and placed under speakers and system. Under these plates then 5 small balls Blutack. With moving floors this makes a good audible difference.
The effects were not to be fixed on the B110, but in a rather "washed out" sound. There were no overshoots or sibilant sounds due to the floor texture. The sibilance was also not amplified with other speakers such as Keiligh, Kaber, Kan, Tukan, Nexus and others.
By the way, I could understand this very well down in the hall, my former photo studio. One part of the studio is covered with laminate, the other is not. For a long time Nexus, Keiligh, Kan were on laminate and a few months ago I set up the system in another place, without laminate. The difference is audible, although not so much that it is immediately noticeable. The music should already be very well known.

Re: Charlie1's System
Thanks Hermann. Interesting to read your experiences.
Never tried Mana and didn't know it wasn't really suited to a suspended wooden floor.

Re: Charlie1's System
Hard to generalize because not all concrete floors are the same. I have found that having the LP12 setup on a floor stand on a poured concrete basement floor gave the best performance. This is with Sound Organisation, Audiotech, Archidee and Mana floor stands. Anything less than this was a significant compromise.
With carpeting over concrete I found it necessary to cut X’s through the carpet and padding to insure the the spike made clean contact with the floor.
Your obviously changing the room and system setup so there’s more variables involved and I’m not sure your using the tune dem to evaluate. I was able to keep the same room, speakers and use a lesser amp from what I was using before and still create a more tuneful system by moving the source components to a more sold floor.

Banned from Pink Fish for not turning off my amps
Re: Charlie1's System
Thanks John! :) x2
The speakers seem very stable even thought the rear spikes must be sat on carpet gripper board. My wife won't thank me for removing sections of that and generally making a pigs ear of the carpet.
The HiFi stuff is miles better than anywhere else in the house. It's just a bit less interesting / engaging than I'm used to.
EDIT: I pulled the plug and put it back in the bedroom. On the first track I played, Immediately there was a sense of meaning to a drum tap intro that wasn't there in the sitting room. All I can say is that it suits me better.
