Re: JBL 308P and 708P
Have you abandoned the idea that power amplifiers are more important than speakers? If not, a new and better TM could surely reverse the order?
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
No, surely not.
I might also add that I haven't tested 708P in the same system as my old 3677+TM setup so I am basically guessing when I say that 708P is better.
Keep in mind that they need at least two weeks to open up. You might hear the potential in the first week but I was not impressed in the beginning.

Ok - I get what you mean. And that’s just with 242s. Thanks for the demomatthias wrote: ↑2022-01-17 18:47<iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/4l ... =generator" width="100%" height="380" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture"></iframe>

I suppose I never really listen to this type of music and therefore don’t get to appreciate why you guys need the big sound and feeling that puts you right in the live venue.
For most of my stuff however the timing , and understanding of the tune is always my priority, the live sound is just an additional but very welcome bonus.

Re: JBL 308P and 708P
the question for me still is that related to the size of the speaker (housing or membrane/driver size) or to certain qualities of the speaker like efficiency or max Sound Pressure Level or low distortion, low compression etc.
Jajo I assume you can not get the same feeling from the JBL 708 - if not what do you think the reason is?
@Matthias: even if I didnt got the feeling completely I can assume what I wanted to hear and its interesting it is not an example where I thought the 3677 would be exceptional. I rather expected something where the size and the capability to move "air" would be used to make the impression.

Re: JBL 308P and 708P
Gear4music has a 30-day return policy and I might buy the 10 year guarantee that includes 180 days return, so I should be alright. :)
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
that is probably a good idea as there are reports ... especially from early batches of the 708 which have failing amp sections.
I hope the problem is solved meanwhile.
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
This problem was solved in the end of 2020/beginning of 2021. 708P has been sold out worldwide so all units delivered should be newly made and without the issues.
It is quite simple. 3677 has bigger drivers and bigger box but is tuned to playback a limited frequency range as they are made to be used with subwoofers handling 80hz and below. This maximises dynamics and output level in this frequency range.
Also there is something special with 15 inch and above, regardless of frequency range...
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
This feeling you don't get with HP listening so I assume there is something like listening with your whole body involved.Defender wrote: ↑2022-01-18 09:09 @Matthias: even if I didnt got the feeling completely I can assume what I wanted to hear and its interesting it is not an example where I thought the 3677 would be exceptional. One track which the 3677s nicely play is this one where more "air" is moved even when they are unable to deliver the lowest bass:

Re: JBL 308P and 708P
Turns out the price of 708P has increased by almost 50% 😬. Glad I ordered before that.
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
I saw that 2800 per piece that was the original listprice.
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
yes this is the usual … normal price
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
Jajo have you just been lucky with the distance between the two loudspeakers matching the space you have or is the distance a compromise or not as important as the distance to the wall?
Did you had to change the position of the loudspeakers after you changed from 308 to 708?
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
I ordered mine at Gear4music for 21 KSEK each. Now they are 31. Same with Emusic.

My room is far from optimal. But it sounds fantastic. Probably my best room so far in practice (but not in theory).Defender wrote: ↑2022-01-18 20:29Jajo have you just been lucky with the distance between the two loudspeakers matching the space you have or is the distance a compromise or not as important as the distance to the wall?

Gain on left speaker is -4dB. No other adjustments.
708P is marginally closer to back wall (1,5cm). Maybe because of the forward bass ports.
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
thank you for the information Jajo
Re: JBL 308P and 708P
Just looking at the back of my 308s and I have input sensitivity +4 and -10db. Mine arrived with setting at -10db and I believe I read on the forum this was the best setting. 2 questions arise:jajo wrote: ↑2022-01-18 23:55My room is far from optimal. But it sounds fantastic. 1) What difference did the change to -4b make in your set up?
2) How did you do it, as the shifting mechanism is inside the unit and looks quite difficult to get at!?

Re: JBL 308P and 708P
dont worry about how to change it because it sounds worst. the +4dB setting is for higher output sources and lowers the input sensitivity so just switching it makes your loudspeakers less loud (everything else being equal). so you have to turn up the volume to compensate for the change.
you can do it with a small screwdriver or a toothpick.

Re: JBL 308P and 708P
Many thanks Defender. I had no intention of changing but was very curious as to why Jajo had.

Re: JBL 308P and 708P
Jajo might explain by himself but the way the 708 does it is more sophisticated and probably has less influence on the outcome than with the 308.
