Re: Random thoughts on hifi
So, how long does a cd really last?
My old Stevie Wonder cd’s from the album “Songs in The Key of Life” are going strong soon turning 40 years or so.
Link removed.
How many years more?
Well, I will report back in ten years time. :-)

Re: Random thoughts on hifi
I own thousands of CDs and I've had one that decayed to the extent it couldn't be played. So far :)
Everything is a remix: Copy, Transform, Combine.
Re: Random thoughts on hifi
My wife and I still have a load of CDs in storage. Seems daft to get rid of them when we paid so much for them in the first place.
I sometimes wonder if any of the mid-to-late 80s ones are worth anything. Too busy to find out though.

They are worth absolutely nothing! Just send them to me and get yourself some more storage room........

Re: Random thoughts on hifi
I have always wondered why digital in general sounded thinner and less human than a record played on an early “Ivor” Sondek (not younger than early 1990’s).
I have found out that it is possible to “tune” my digital setup towards that sound. The industry (Linn) has moved the other way trying to get the Sondek to sound more like their digital offerings.
This is not about what is right or wrong. To me it is about what is possible.
The key is to minimise vibrations going from anywhere outside the (in my case) cd player and into the reading of the cd.
Latest I have put three small pieces of felt onto the end of the power cord going into the wall power outlet.

This made a big difference. The vibrations going from the wall all the way to the cd player changes the performance of the cd player.
You can also place the felt on the wall outlet instead or combine... To me it changes the sound.
We can all experiment and listen to the result. Just try it yourself. :-)

I am probably overreacting but the idea of flammable felt right next to electrical pins that go into an AC socket would have me a bit worried. I suppose it is unlikely to cause a problem but it just makes me a bit uneasy.

Re: Random thoughts on hifi
Has anyone tried the Naim power cords? They have designed in vibration breaks similar to beck’s idea. I think the cheaper version uses the same power cable as Linn (iSheng) with their proprietary vibration reducing wall plug. The more expensive one uses a heavier gauge flex with vibration reducing wall and iec plugs.
Re: Random thoughts on hifi
I bought a Naim power chord a few years back for a Linn Kisto. Im sorry but I have no identification or technical details to pass on the nature of the plug.
I was looking forward to a perceptible upgrade. Instead what I got was a thief who robbed both music and sound.
Returned.
