Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Yes, now 1 sounds right on the money while 2 sounds a bit clumsy.
My guess is that 1 is your modified and 2 is the original.

I'm not wanting to guess which is which, but I prefer the first in each set.
The search for knowledge is not nourished by certainty, but by a radical distrust in certainty
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
needed to have 2 rounds to decide.
With the first go I was not happy with option 1 nor option 2. Than I was reading becks comment and wanted to hear how he came to the conclusion.
I have to agree with him option 1 (with the diffusor on the middle of your table) sounds more musical to me.
However, option 1 sounded also a little forward/harsh to me on the first go (this is the hifi side of it)

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Well, it will not be the first time I have been fooled so do not take my word for it! :-)
It is interesting that placing some pictures on the wall just behind the microphone changes the recorded sound so much (if that is the only change). Making this comparison one has to forget the old clip.

I agree with everyone - no 1 is better and by some margin.
If this is original vs another modified PSU, I would guess original is no 1

I prefer No1 for being a touch more harmonious.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
No 1 is the same modified psu as in the clips from last week and no 2 is the original psu.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I think no 2 is clearly better. No 1 seems more like playing the same notes a the time. The chord changes and melody is much more easily perceived in no 2.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Another vote for no. 1, no. 2 sounds a bit clumsy as beck noted.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Interesting!
I previously listened to the first track only. Now I just had to listen to them both.
In the first track I can't really hear what you're describing, but in the second track I can. Something is a bit one-noted in option 1, while option 2 I enjoyed more the longer I listened.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Here are four new clips that I find interesting. They have nothing to do with the Karousel (except that it was obviously used) but are another small change in the system.

Note that the change is in reverse order on set 2 compared to set 1 but they are basically the same change.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Well, this is amusing. I listened to these tracks without reading any replies and I preferred 1 right away on the Knopfler tracks. Then listening on the Paisley tracks I liked 1 but then I quite liked 2 as well and wasn't really sure, but thought maybe 1. Then I read the comments and went back and listened to the Paisley tracks a couple more times and overall I do find 2 a bit better. But listening again to the Knopfler tracks I still prefer 1. How's that for decisive!lejonklou wrote: ↑2020-06-02 17:06Interesting!

Is it possible to have this differences because of different songs / recordings ...
......................................................................................................... in the room vs clips ...
I pass once again thru Fredrik Tune Method and inside I find answer on both questions ... but I feel like something I miss ... something is ...
I don't have that big experience in Tune Method as you (just half a year) ... especially listen in the room and than listen on the clips that you make ...
OK, partly it's my mistake, I change headphones ... I find original Apple (as Fredrik suggest) ...
BUT ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
That’s similar to how I heard the difference. Preferred 1 on the MK track, initially liked 2 on the BP track, which made me listen harder to both tracks. Still preferred 1 on the MK track and eventually preferred 1 on the BP track due to the guitar being slightly more tuneful and apparent compared to 2.ThomasOK wrote: ↑2020-06-02 18:07Well, this is amusing. I'm leaning towards first clip in Set 1 and second clip in Set 2. They flow a bit better to my ears.ThomasOK wrote: ↑2020-06-02 17:54 Here are four new clips that I find interesting. The other clips sound great as well and seem more dynamic, but my foot doesn't tap as well to them.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I opted for option 1 after listening to track one a few times and had a very strong preference - I did have a quick listen to track 2 and it did nothing to change my mind.lejonklou wrote: ↑2020-06-02 17:06Interesting!

Just now I listened only to track 2 and think that option 2 is preferable!
I have a feeling that psychologists would say I suffered from confirmation bias the first time - I had already decided option 1 was better by the time I listened to the second track.
I think it is good to do these tests blind and find out the results later - especially when manufacturers release ‘upgrades’.

for me for clip 2 something is more highlighted but distracts from the main flow which I enjoy in clip 1
However, always nice to hear your system also with clip 2/3
