Head on over to the Playground for practical listening exercises and you will hear the first track (and also the title track) for the latest album I picked up "In the Wee Small Hours" by Frank Sinatra. It is a repressing but it is the original mono and sounds superb to me. For completeness I should mention that the song is actually titled: "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning".

Spinning the past week:
Bob Darin - Commitment (US 1969): Probably his best, very funky too, but difficult to find
Jimmy Reed - Just Jimmy Reed (US 1962): A somewhat forgotten blues-man, worth looking into
The New Stan Getz Quartet - Getz Au Go Go (US 1964): A nice live recording with Astrud Gilberto guesting on some tracks
Sheryl Crow - Threads (US 2019): Her best since the debut with loads of famous guests
Jerry Butler - Folk Songs (US 1963): Jerry's take on traditional folk, very good
Josh Ritter - Fever Breaks (US 2019): Produced by Jason Isbell and his best for quite a while
Matt Berninger & Phoebe Bridgers - Walking On A String: From Matt's (The National) upcoming solo album
Bonnie Bishop - The Walk (US 2019): Great follow-up to Ain't Who I Was
Malin Pettersen - Alonesome (Qobuz 2019)

Not listened to yet but have just received three new records I am quite looking forward to. Two are from King Crimson: Thrak and The ReconstruKction of Light. Thrak has been mastered on vinyl for the first time, previously only being available in digital formats. The ReconstruKction of Light, on the other hand is something different. Somehow they lost the electronic drum tracks from the originals for The ConstruKction of Light so Pat Mastelloto, the original drummer, created new acoustic/electric drum tracks for the music. Hence ReconstruKction (the Kc indicating King crimson - no connection with Linn - interestingly an idea I also used in NOKTurne Audio). This is also the first time either version has been available on vinyl. My need for digital playback is being reduced day by day. Now if they would just release Mino Cinelu on vinyl!!!

The third record is the brand new Rhiannon Giddens album "There Is No Other" a two record set on which she is accompanied by jazz multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi. I have heard several tracks online and am looking forward to the entire record at home.

I was in the mood for The Cure today, and think I’ll continue on that path for a few more hours after this album:)

Indeed! It took a long time to come out on vinyl. But my favorite is still Pretty Hate Machine. Everything on it is exceptional and Something I Can Never Have is a masterwork of quiet desperation and angst.

O yes!
Remember when Pretty Hate Machine came, Head Like a Hole played on alternative nation and headbangers ball. It something totally different and it opened a door for me :)
Played the record a few times last night and could conclude that the tidal version was not good compared the repress LP, Kaos kind of agreed! He came to me first when I changed to play the LP :P
