Re: Wife issue ...
They look great - not imposing at all. 102cm high and only 17cm wide (not inc stand)
Fancy them in Living Coral with toughened glass finish, sir? :)

I like those - in that setting.
You need a modern looking home though.
Or go for the classic Space 1999 look:
And to think, we should have been living on the moon for another 20 years already.

If all else fails, maybe one of these in-wall speakers would be an option:
1. DALI PHANTOM S-280
2. B & W CWM8.3 D

Re: Wife issue ...
The Audio Physic Classic 12 is exactly the same speaker, but with more traditional wood veneer finishes.
Or for a full wood veneer - the Classic 5
This is the Classic 12

Re: Wife issue ...
No-one has mentioned the Linn 5 series with their ID 'condoms' to make them safe for (& from) Interior Designers... Hadn't realised that these are Exakt only so no go with the system even if there was a cover that is wife-acceptable....

Post of the week! Or is it that it just speaks to me on both levels?

Hey guys, the speakers his wife likes are these:

They look more in need of condoms than the bags needed to cover the Series 5. I can understand how the Ligneas might tickle the wife's fancy... If they sound half as good as they look, I'd have thought we have a yes, yes, yes - time to light a cigarette :)
Re: Wife issue ...
to me they look more like two Cobra´s before they bite you and thats certainly not a yes, yes, yes ;)
I hope they dont hiss like Cobra´s

Re: Wife issue ...
Haha, yes. Just need a nice snake charmer to protect you ;) The Ligneas do have amazingly graceful lines. Together with your cobra comment, the video seemed appropriate given artist & song, especially if the speakers will be driven by Scottish amps :)
From the sublime to the ridiculous, there's the JBL Paragon depending on the apartment decor... and there are plenty of other speakers from Kenrick Sound that might have the wife relenting on the 242s .. or demanding a divorce :o Guessing Mr Abe doesn't have [an] SO either :D

Re: Wife issue ...
You intend keeping the max'ed out LP12 and Klimax Kontrol - AND need to compromise on the speaker side.
Firstly, I'm happy you don't need to compromise on the front end!
To compromise on the speaker side is not the end of the world.
So get the best power amp you can, as it will for sure offer more musical performance than your current setup - due to source first. (amps are more important than speakers)
So, it's either Tundra Mono och Linn Klimax Solo.
The Twin is not that much better than Akurate 2200, well is sounds a lot better but I'm talking about musicality.
But Solo or Mono going to be a LOT better than either 2200/Twin
Trust me, it will be just great. I owned all these amps and Solo and Mono is on another level. With Monos a good step above Solo.
Good Luck!

Hi thereLake Jorgen wrote: ↑2019-02-03 20:59 Sad to say, I have to sell or trade in a wonderful, active 242 MK1 system powered by a latest spec Akurate 4200/D and a Majik 6100/D. Front end is a maxed out LP12 and a Klimax Kontrol that I intend to keep. Plan is to go two-channel with a loudspeaker approved by my wife ...
I want to stick to with Linn when it comes to power amp – but which one?
1. Should I simply keep the 4200 and use only two channels? Maybe bi-amping my future speakers (if possible)?
2. Would a 2200 be any different than a 4200 that has only two channels in use?
3. Should I trade in the whole back end for a Klimax Twin?
Appreciate feedback on this.
(If anyone is interested in buying the above, feel free to make contact in a pm. Pick up only, central Stockholm)
Thanks!
Jörgen

Re: Wife issue ...
There's another small problem. Those speakers are intended to appeal to men who think they understand art. I am betting Lake Jorgen's wife would take one look at those and think the 242s aren't too bad. Then again, maybe that's the idea!

This turns out to be quite an enjoyable thread! ThomasOK is probably spot on :-) The last two examples looks like some mean laser beam weapons from a bad Star Wars copy sci fi-flic.

Re: Wife issue ...
The best bet is probably to go with the Ligneas and the best power amps, to counter any adverse effects from the speaker change.
