Third party controller software for Linn DS

Post by Peter Lanky »

I have been using Bubble DS to operate my various Linn DS boxes since 2012, but having just acquired a new tablet, I find this is no longer downloadable from Android store. Obviously I can get Bubble DS Next with adverts and I can pay for a licence it seems, though I am loathe to want to do this having already paid for the original, and the new version looks almost identical other than cosmetic.

I had contacted Bubblesoft, only to be told 'Bubble DS is discontinued' (really useful information that) thus proving that the art of stating the obvious is endemic among customer support portals. So I ask:

What does Bubble DS Next do if a licence is purchased?
Is there a better controller for a Linn DS?

I use that for a non Linn system in another room, but find it a little cumbersome.

Bubble DS Next is a much more responsive product. It does all the later stuff like Tidal and Qobuz etc.

Given the price of a DS, the tiny cost of BubbleDS Next is insignificant for the functionality it offers and the years of use you'll get out of it as the best Android controller for the DS. Worth supporting the developer with the small cost, given what it offers.

Absolutely agree. Bubble DS Next is my "go to" control point on Android. Linn Kazoo is respectable and a good deal more reliable than it once was, but it is, to my way of thinking, not as well laid out as Bubble. Also, Bubble DS Next has evolved incrementally over the years, with a number of useful settings and UI options added. It now deals with network glitches a good deal more robustly than it once did (and better than Kazoo); the option to exit the app and restart it (discouraged in Android, but actually quite useful) almost always fixes any remaining problems.

Go to "my apps" in your Google Play account. There you find apps you already paid for, such as BubbleDS.

On my particular phone, Linn Kazoo hangs and crashes, otherwise it seems like a good app. I will try to reinstall it.

When you do this, Bubble DS is there, and the page suggests you can download it, but when attempting to do so, nothing happens.

I have now bought a licence for Bubble DS Next, which I did via the 'buy licence' link in the app on my tablet.
However on my phone, the 'about/help', menu shows 'No Licence Found'. The app on the device clearly knows that I have a licence, because if I press the 'buy licence' option, I get a message saying that I already own the product, which is confirmed by looking at my Google account order history.

I assume other users have the app on more than one device, so how does one solve this issue?

I've not had this issue. I've installed it on 4 devices with no problem, no need to input the licence key on each device. I assumed the licence is related to the Play store Google account rather than the device. Perhaps check with the developer?

Bubble DS next is absolutely perfect. The best, most intuitive control point software I've ever used. It's well worth it. I paid for the original and next is even better.
Just ensure that you have logged in with the same account across all your devices and it should install on those said devices.
