Linn streamers

Post by Sopper »

Can anyone confirm that the streamer inside the Linn DS(M) is the same for all versions?
Majik DS(M), Akurate DS(M), Klimax DS(M) and maybe even Kiko and Sneaky?

I can not confirm, but please borrow latest KDSM and ADSM and compare both via SPDIF out to your RME DAC.
Would be very nice to have clips:-)
I know for sure that Klimax DAC section is superior to Akurate DAC section even when both are Katalyst.

It does, actually. There´s Spdif which is configurable as either input or output.

I think there are clocking differences both between ranges and over time within a range. Not sure how much this affects the streamer section though.

I'm pretty sure it is not the same in all versions. My understanding was that the digital part of the circuit was the same on early KDS and ADS but that may have also changed in later versions. But I doubt the Majik has ever been in the same league in any part of the circuitry other than the Dynamik power supply.

Thanks for the replies.
Guess I won’t be able to try them all with RME Adi-2 dac...
If the streamer in all units were equal, I could get away with a cheaper Majik.

You have already a good DAC, so you could look as well at non-Linn streamers like the dCS Network Bridge, Auralic Aries G1/G2, Sonore, Bricasti M5 and Allo Digione Signature or USBridge. It would be worth a try whether one is able to outperform the streaming section of your ADSM for less money.
