Tundras / Exakt / PMC

Post by sunbeamgls »

Well, they're in the house. First 24 hour trim and then re-trim (after another 8 hours) complete. LEDs switched off and listening underway.

Looks Good!

I hope it sounds really good too!

Unless the blue lights annoy you, I think that Tundra sounds a tiiiiny bit better when they're on.

The annoyance will probably outweigh any SQ benefit :)

I think switchable lights is a good feature.

No. My phone's mic is worse than a terrible thing. Even for comparative vids it would be useless.

That’s a shame.

A comparative video says so much more than words ever can, particularly when the Tune Method isn’t used to evaluate the system.

Looking forward to the update, but really looks good and I would also sacrifice a teeny bit of sound quality and have the lights switched off.

Now that Exakt has settled in and Katalyst in place - I would love to listen to a system like this.

Work is now very busy. Probably a week or so before I'll get time to write.

Are they on demo Neil? I leave the lights on too, I'd probably just put one of those little dimmer stickers over them. There's definitely a teeny bit of difference between on and off. I'd have thought an audiophile like your good self would be prepared to go the extra mile to achieve audio nirvana!

Thanks Ozzzy, already using them on the searingly bright Linn LEDs. A black sharpie first, then one of those, makes them pretty much acceptable. All of that is hidden from view as its down a short pipe on the Linn front panel. The Tundras would be more visible and I think deserve a little more respect than some sticky stuff on the front :)

The lights off feature is good for me.

I finally got time to write down some thoughts. Rambling musings as usual, but may be of interest to some.

A very good write-up. Interesting part about the early journey and the 3020. I felt it summed up what Lejonklou electronics do quite nicely. Thanks.

The 3020 was my first amp as well (followed by the original Naim Nait). I love how everyone who buys Fredrik’s amps give similar descriptions of a more natural musical experience that just flows as the musicians intended, with nothing overemphasised.

Great write up Neil!

Enjoyable read, especially as I have recent experience of 5 tundra exakt and 4 tundra and 350.
It might be worth you trying Linn knekt plugs and k400 it adds a lot!
The volume offset is 8. Klouts had green led!

Thanks Anthony. I'm gradually moving away from K400, the Naim stuff seems better to me.

Very informative and enjoyable write up Sunbeamgls, Congratulations on your new Tundras, they are fantastic.

I spent 6 hours yesterday at John's listening to them and a sagatun as we tested new speakers from Audio Physic and cables, power and Ethernet , all especially for your up coming visit...

I am trying to figure out two things ; How to afford 5 Tundras and where to site them. The answer to the first is sell my klimax twin and my two 4200's, maybe you can help with the locating when you arrive at the end of next month.

Totally agree with your blog.
The Tundra works extremely well in a Exact system.
Got 3 myself as soon as the Chief Executive of the house also noticed how good they sounded over the Linn amps.

Another great write-up, Sunbeam - thank you. I wonder what you'd make of the Tundra Monos as well? Now all I need is a Lejonklou dealer less than 300 miles away from where I live (Sunderland - yes, I know...). so that I can hear the Tundras for myself. Sadly, Lejonklou's erstwhile Carlisle outlet now seems to be wholly devoted to high quality alcoholic spirits!

I'll see what I can do regarding a dealer closer to Sunderland, Fitter Stoke. Otherwise there's always shipping.

Yes, Ben at House of Malts decided to fully convert from HiFi to the spiritual business (which apparently is thriving).
