Hi all!
Anyone that have compared the recent firmwares, post 4.52- with the present reference 4.52?

Hi ML,
I'm guessing you mean the reference is 52.117?
I've listened to 54.133 & 54.135, both of which I felt were worse than .117 (tune wise).
Thanks to ML sending me a copy of 53.125, I've been able to compare it to 52.117 over the weekend.
Of all the firmware comparisons, I think this has been the hardest. Whereas 52.117 compared to any of the earlier releases was fairly easy. I spent hours comparing the two, sometimes preferring one, sometimes the other! I think they're both great rhythm and tune players, which is why I found it so difficult. I finally managed to differentiate them by listening to complex tunes played in the background to the main tunes. This was where my usual choice of solo guitar/piano/harp didn't help much, so I settled on Gaelic jigs and reels where multiple instruments were playing their own melody. Here, I could hear that 53.125 allowed me to follow the tunes buried deep in the mix - not as clearly as the main instruments, but at least I could make out the tunes better than with 52.117, which didn't do a particularly good job. I've not heard Katalyst yet, but I would imagine that it would reveal the tunes buried deep in the mix really well too (given the attention paid to the DAC's power supplies).
In the same way that it's amazing how much information is buried in vinyl grooves, it's amazing how much information there is in digital files we've not been able to resolve and each new upgrade manages to reveal.

Thanks for posting your review of the 2 firmware versions.
Does anyone have 53.125 for KRDS1, please? Would be a welcome present for the streamer... Cheers.
Anyone tested the newer releases yet on how they compare to 53.125? When I got my KDS back from the factory, 54.135 was pre-installed. I updated to the latest beta 55.163 but would also like to compare to 53.125.
Is it possible to get 53.125 for KlimaxDsMk4, as this is no longer on the releases nor beta site. Thanks

Beta code is almost coming too quickly now to keep evaluating and choosing. I've found some good and some not so good but it would be a time consuming job to keep swapping back and forth whilst making notes. Something to look forward to in retirement.
Its therefore very useful to get views on this thread, although, of course, the firmware versions now impact different systems in different ways.
Differences between production versions might be easier to keep track of.
Did anyone try the new beta (http://products.linn.co.uk/VersionInfo/ ... /4.56.173/)?
Paulssurround on the L-forum pretends it is the best yet, but I will not risk to upgrade as I had problems last time to revert back to 4.53.125. To quote Paul:
I am finding that sound quality on the new beta is the best sounding Davaar I have ever played in my Linn system, and by a good margin!!!
This does not mean that it is more musical, so I am asking for the advice of the experienced listeners on this forum :)

I installed Davaar 4.56.173 a few days ago and what shall I say... I'm very pleased withe result. IMHO its a very good one!
I have to add, I'm just playing around with cinch/xlr silvers between Streamer and Pre. Since installation of this beta I've not put my (so far) preferred cinch cable back there.
As you see: no exakt here!
KDSM/1 - KK1/d - LK Xover - 2x 5125/d - Keltik (Seas/Hiquphon mod)
Yep, both.
I think the new one is on level with 4.52.117 (at least) , the best so far.
IMHO its best described as "musical as 4.52.117 with enhanced hifi abilitys"
This is (another) one that I'll store!
KR, K
I am undecided between the 2 so far and didn't do the upgrade as part of a direct comparison - will live with the new beta for a few days before any real evaluation.
Initial impression is that the latest beta is musically mellow, but I'm trying to decide if I find it a little too smooth - just not sure it's as connected to the music & the musicians.
Time will tell if it's as musically informative & engaging as the previous version - I made sure I had 53.125 saved before I upgraded to 56.173 so that I can revert as needed ;)
Curious if anyone is planning to try the latest 56 beta against 52 or 53 beta firmwares. Results are in here, but I won't post if someone else is in the process of evaluating 56.173 to avoid possibly prejudicing their assessment.
I am also curious whether anyone else here has views on the latest 56.173 versus previously identified most musical ones? I'm particularly interested to hear from those with 3677s who might have tried 56.173.
