DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?
Zip file with 52.117 for KRDS1 would be appreciated. Thanks.
Irritating that the 'best', most musical versions are often beta releases, so not generally available. Wonder what happens between musical beta, and release version

It's not as strange if you consider how many Beta's there are - and just ONE release.tokenbrit wrote: Wonder what happens between musical beta, and release version
= it's more likely that a Beta is more musical than the release.

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?
Only if the musicality is by accident rather than by design. Sad that the releases more often than not don't retain the musicality of the better or best beta versions

I think we can conclude that the musicality is, when not explicitly stated, by accident. At least that is my conclusion.tokenbrit wrote:Only if the musicality is by accident rather than by design. Zip file with 52.117 for KDS/1 (last version without exakt) would be appreciated.
The naming of firmwares seems to have changed.
Is this correct?
KDS /0 (original) is KlimaxDsMk1.
KDS /1 (new board in 2011) is KlimaxDSMk2
KDS /2 (exakt links) is KlimaxDSMk3
KDS /3 (katalyst) is KlimaxDSMk4

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?
Correct.
Totally weird designation that introduce confusion! mkI should of course be KDS/1, but Linn have it KDS/0
Anyone that undestands why?
I asked Linn R/D but only got answers without explanations.

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?
The explanation that I received from Linn was that this is engineering nomenclature. There is the original KDS then there is KDS Rev.1, KDS Rev.2, etc. with Rev short for revision. They have just taken the Rev or revision out of it and made it KDS/1, KDS/2, KDS/3, etc. This, of course, means that the original one becomes the KDS/0 although I believe it is more correct for it just to be the KDS with no additional digits as it has no revision and is the original. But once the KDS/1 and KDS/2 numbering system became established it became natural to call the first one KDS/0 and Linn does use this numbering for the original units.

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?
(Rev. 0) Rev. 1; Rev. 2 etc makes sense since it equates, directly, to KDS; KDS/1; KDS/2, etc but guessing that the Sales team got involved and messed up the clarity of the Engineering nomenclature when they tried to clarify but confused with Mk1, Mk2, etc, which is 'off by 1' - either that or the firmware team aren't C++ programmers. As a software engineer by education, if not by profession, I count from zero, but 'business types' count from 1. The confusion comes when you 'cross the streams' - "don't cross the streams"

I'd like a copy of that too please, as 52 sounded excellent but 53 not so much.tokenbrit wrote:Zip file with 52.117 for KRDS1 would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?
Yes but Linn DS isn't a sw for internal usage.tokenbrit wrote:(Rev. 0) Rev. Its a hw-player that is sold to customers.
Besides, even in SW companies I worked in, the second official product release has always been labeled as 2nd...mkII.../2 whatever, also by R/D employees.
For products it simply makes most sense.

I get that. Personally I don't mind which they use as long as it's consistent. Surprising, within the same company, that they don't settle on one: /0, /1, /2, or mk.1, mk.2, etc... not both. It's analogous to the man with one watch vs two - unless they match you don't know which is 'korrekt'

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?
Would someone mind sending me a copy of 4.52.117, please?
It's for a Klimax DS/2, which I think is now called Klimax DS Mk3. I downloaded a copy when it was available, but I think it's been corrupted.
Thanks in anticipation!

Old enough to know that movie but not old enough to have forgotten the dialogue! :-)

Don't forget THE THIRD WAY!tokenbrit wrote:I get that. Personally I don't mind which they use as long as it's consistent. In Konfig, a KDS/1 is referred to as '2011 Variant'
Just to add a bit of spice. Imagine what the 3 versioning nomenclature will look like by 2050!
Oh, and don't forget, ftom a hardware architecture perspective, DS/n = DSM/n-1 or Mk2 = Mk1 etc.

Me too. Any chance of having 4.52.117 for Klimax DSM/1 (preferably on Dropbox)?kallesprätt wrote:I'm also interested in this one, anybody who has a copy?tokenbrit wrote:Zip file with 52.117 for KRDS1 would be appreciated. Thanks.
