Wanted - Information about Linn's RS232 control protocol

Does anyone have any information about Linn's implementation of the RS232 control protocol between DS players and preamps?

I'm particularly keen to understand what changes between different preamps, and thus the need to select your preamp in Konfig. Also, is there anything specific which would prevent a 3rd party amp from emulating a Linn preamp to allow control by the DS?
