Looking for that magic box, please PM.

Mmmm - there are two types of Active box that can be used with Keltiks:
1. Keltik Active Box - this version has one large circuit board and is a dedicated build for the Keltiks. It was the first active box made available for Keltiks and ONLY came with a transformer power supply.
2. Linn Active Box (aka Tunebox). This accepts up to three pairs of mono active cards. The early ones had transformer power supplies and the later ones Slimline SMPS. The later ones also can take the latest Chakra active cards with mono adaptors (free when you buy the Chakra cards from Linn). Both versions of the tuneboxes had two pairs of bass outputs fed by one pair of bass cards just designed for Keltiks (and three way Keilidhs).
So if you go for option two then you will also meed to buy the cards. Some feel that it is better sound quality too.
Regards
CJ

The original Keltik box was not very good, the cards in a tunebox were much better, especially when the bass cards were updated, somewhere in the s/n 600Kalle wrote:Hi CJ,
thanks for you answer, you are right, i made a mistake.
What i am looking for is the Keltik Crossover, named Aktiv which was sold together with the speakers, there is one on an auction site but not sold overseas...
Klimax tunebox in a different league.
Hi Kalle,
Don't know if you're aware of this, but in case you want to re-use your chakra cards into a LK style tunebox, you are going to need the latest SMPS slimline version. They are very hard to get by.
An older tunebox version with the round torodial transformer only accepts mono crossover cards, no chakra ones.
I've sold my tunebox last year, in case you find one, I do have a full set of 8 mono crossover cards for Keltiks.
How are you planning to power the Keltiks when using the 4200s plus chakra cards somewhere else?

Hi Mrco,
tahnsk for the advice.
I am lookng for a crossover to have an easy solution for a couple of months (I have 2 old Lk 140's and borrowing the 3rd), I know it is not going to sound better than now, but I cannot afford the expense of tunebox+lk cards.
One of my A4200 is going to be used as amp for a location during an art exhibition (without my chakra cards, but they need 4 channels) and I do not want to remain without music for such a long time:)
I am also afraid that they would like to keep it (this is the reason why I have also published a topic to find another one..)

As it's only a temporary measure, why don't you configure one 4200 to drive the mid and treble for both speakers, and use one Lk140 to drive the bass on both speakers. CJ is currently selling a single stereo Keltik bass card for an LK140 on eBay. Simply bi-wire the bass drivers, or use jumpers.
Not ideal I know, but as its only temporary......
Paul.

I just didn't want to buy stuff I will not be using in the future, but that sounds an interesting solution.
If I am not wrong the stereo keliks card for the 140 is the same both for bass and isobarik bass...
So if I do wire the bass and isobarik bass by the 140 and accurate trim the 4200 I can maybe get something good.
Thansk a lot, I am going to think about this!

Yes, the stereo card will make both channels on the LK140 give out a signal filtered for the bass only (obviously the left channel on the 140 will give out the left signal bass, and the right channel the right signal bass).
If you bi-wire the output of the LK140 into the two bass channels on the Keltiks, that should work fine.

Hi Kalle,
I think it should work technically, though not the optimal sonic solution.
Linn says you should not mix different kind of Keltik active cards.
I would advise to ask CJ as he is a very genuine person to deal with.
I understand you would likely avoid buying stuff you don´t need to, but the tunebox is also an interim solution for tempory use.
Besides diffucult to find, maybe also not easy to sell on fast afterwards.
I don´t know what the chances are that your one 4200 will be a keeper for the gallery, if funds permit you´re probably best off with buying another one. Or, in case you have a good relationship with a nearby dealer, see if you can get a 2100/4100/2200 amp on loan for some time. These all accept your chakra cards without modification, and I´ve also run my Keltiks with a single 6100 in 3-way active mode.
Otherwise, maybe snatch up a pair of Katans for temporay use?
They are easy to come by, don´t break the bank and not difficult to sell on without much of a loss. And you´ll be surprised how they sound when coupling them to a 4200!
Cheers,
Marco

Hi Kalle,
Only just saw your signature, MDSM, 4200/D, Keltiks.
Why not temporary run the Keltiks in 6-way configuration, using the power amp in the MDSM as the 6th channel?
No extra costs involved, just swapping some chakra cards and replugging the speaker cable.
Put the treble cards in the MDSM (easiest load), and the mid plus double bass on the 4200/d.
I´ve used a single 6100 with Keltiks so you should be even better off.
Cheers,
Marco
PS. don´t forget to enable the internal power amp inside the MDSM, otherwise you´ll miss the high notes
