Well, my main system has been in storage for the last two months while the builders create an extension which will make the whole house 12 feet (4m) longer, including a new living room to house the system, so I've been using a Squeezebox into my current Yamaha AV system, which has been pretty horrid...
...but now they've completed the walls including the buried cables for my surround speakers, I've been able to create a temporary system feeding the wall mounted Tukans which will be my surround speakers, driven off a Squeezebox into a RoomAmp (connected direct to the Pre-Outs, which are paralleled internally with the power amp, so no need to worry about an RCU!).
It's amazing how much more musical it sounds than the Yamaha system... :)

I've not tried them on stands, to be honest, as wall mounting is the only sensible option for my scenario.
The wall mount points have been chosen to be pretty much the equivalent of where I'd have them if on stands though, albeit coming down from the roof not up from the floor!
