Demo on LP12SE today . and a Klimax DS , both passive and aktiv.
With Majik Control , Majik 6100 and Majik 109's
Then the same again with the Kikkin.
Aktiv is great
Given the choice over the Majik and the Kikkin, then def the Kikkin
I was sold on the LP12 SE , but then I listened to the Klimax DS set up with the solo's and the Active Klimax speakers and wow.
The Klimax DS is fantastic.

Now Klimax DS
An update.
When I left the House of Linn ,I had the LP12SE system.
On returning home after the excitement of listening to the two Flagship Linn Systems, and a discussion with my wife. I realised that the DS would be
a better system for us.
So my system will be passive for the time being as I will need to tune dem where the speakers will eventually go,and this is much easier with single wires rather than the bulk required for Aktiv.
The pre amp will be the Kikkin which is a great bit of kit for the money
Amp Majik 6100 ( ready to go Aktiv )
Speakers Majik 109's
I listened to the Katan's but the 109's in passive were still better
So now I need help with the other bits of kit required for a DS system
The system on offer at the House of Linn is fantastic, but I only have about 10 decent LP's that I ever play, although I did intend to purchase other LP's.

Sounds like a good decision if you don't have a wealth of vinyl, especially if you listen to a lot of new releases.
The DS machines must be great for background music as well - you won't need to change LPs every 20 minutes and remember that one has finished. Probably more practical for the Mrs also.
Enjoy!
PS I used Linn K600 speaker cable and it's very good aktively driving my Ninka's 3 way.
PPS Don't forget to get some Linn Silver's for between the Kikkin and 6100. I presume the KDS already comes with a pair for connection between it and Kikkin.

10.45 to 5 pm! That must have been some demo!
The system you describe sounds very "right" to my ears. It will probably sound fantastic. I didn't realise you had so few LP's and considering that a DS should be a better option.
Before the DS machines were introduced, I know some people who bought new top of the line LP12's although they didn't have any vinyl collection. They simply wanted the best performance possible and started collecting vinyl - which is rather fun in itself, but time consuming and also getting more expensive each year.
It seems this is becoming increasingly rare today, mainly because the DS offers performance that is so much closer to the LP12 than CD ever was.
Best of luck with this and keep us posted!

Sorry, forgot this part.Starman wrote:So my system will be passive for the time being as I will need to tune dem where the speakers will eventually go,and this is much easier with single wires rather than the bulk required for Aktiv.
Please note that the optimal position of your passive speakers is not identical to the optimal position of the same speakers aktiv!
The aktiv filters alters the frequency response (increases the deep bass), and this changes the exact position in the room where they sound the best.
