Charlie, may I ask, what torque you used for the Koil?

Sorry, but my dealer does it by feel and I don't touch the decks anymore (with possible exception of the arm colour.)

These older unserviced Kans are definitely pressing all the right buttons - tracks like this one that haven't really worked as they should are coming back with restored meaning...

Saw The Cure last week and they're still playing that one with enthusiasm - great gig!

Sounds like you've found 'the cure' for your speaker problem - happy hols :)

Lol!
They sound quite muffled but it doesn't seem to matter - and they're not so bad in real life as in the clips.
Happy Xmas to you too!

One of the white Kans is quite muffled compared to the other and clearly not very well so decided they need a light touch service. Hopefully Spannko's DIY speaker project will help me pick better caps than the Solens. This will be my last chance with Kans as I can't see any other long-term way forward.

However, my backup seems pretty good and better than most of the Kans: Black Liner/Lingo 2/Ekos 2/VM95E/Slipsik/Wako/LK140/K20/Tukans...

Hopefully Super Kikkin / Giella Pi will improve things and play nicely with the 140

I have always liked Tukans. It sounds good to me. :-)

I like Tukans too. They’re compact, unobtrusive and reasonably tuneful. For about £300 they’re a great second system speaker for the TV, office, kitchen, workshop, garden, kids bedroom etc

Thanks gents.

£300 sounds a bit high. I paid £150 off ebay for these about 4-5 years ago, mint with original boxes, manual and cloth grills.

OK, I haven’t looked for ages. That makes them a bargain then and at that price everyone should have a pair! I’d say just make sure they’re the version with bars on the tweeter, the earlier mesh tweeters were a bit agricultural sounding.

Agricultural sounding? I haven't heard that term before. Does that mean that they sound like dirt or that they grow on you over time? ;-)

I choose the latter! :-)

It's not my field of expertise: it could have been that he was digging them, but I think he meant they were farmed out to the wrong supplier...

Then it must not be too bad to be cooped up with a pair.

I do know what you are hinting at Spannko!

My system can also sound agricultural from time to time:

It was (not was) the albumen, and it's now time for a clip of "everybody walk the dinosaur" :D

When you said you'd been buying a lot of CDs, this is not what came to mind! :)
