"a single 5" Bass driver in a Kaber -the other being a dedicated Mid- vs. 2x6" Mid/Bass units in a Keliidh."
I think Kaber is 2.5 way, so both woofers are used for bass...but only one for mid.

I think this is correct for the most part passive, not remembering how it was done in Aktiv config though. Also I believe the Keltik Midrange is the same driver used in the Kaber, SPKR007

I'll do a proper LP12 comparison in the Playground tomorrow as tpetsch asked for a while back, but here's some Lejonklou amplification in boogie mode (with K400/Silvers) with the Valhalla/Black Liner/Ittok/K9-body...

Thanks Fredrik.

Finally found a pair of speakers with '02 deck and Lejonklou electronics that I'm completely happy with (in terms of balance) and that's the Tukans funny enough. But borrowing a pair of used 109s today to see how they get on.

I hope this is seen as the compliment it's meant to be. It's just funny to me how this setup is as musical as any vintage Linn/Naim system but in a different way. I won't go into specifics but they are both very musical and engaging and yet they get there by a different path, and probably suit different people but I am able to equally enjoy both for some reason. I find that interesting.

It doesn’t surprise me tbh charlie1. I’ve really liked the Tukans in some of your previous vids and was only looking for a cheap pair earlier in the week!

Tukan: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/luttyytg ... 5d4ra&dl=0
M109: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/yx5td0sb ... s7udz&dl=0

Not sure...

The M109s sound nicer in the room but seem to drag a bit musically and sound slightly congested/compressed in the midrange.

What do other folks think?

I positioned/levelled both pairs as best I can.

109s sound 'projected'; feel they would get tiring... Happily listening to (& enjoying ;) the Tukans while I type this :)

No doubt the 109's are bigger & fuller sounding overall but lumbering along as you stated "dragging" and ultimately they seem to lack the overall forward drive drive of the music as when that same track is played thru the Tukans. ...I would say the Tukans are technically more In Tune.

Thanks everyone. Hear the same things but nice to get it confirmed. I'll just live with them for a couple of weeks anyway and see how they impact my listening habits. EDIT: have to say that for late-night listening these 109s are very nice - probably best so far, although I am playing a Linn LP :)

Because my hifi obsession isn't complicated enough, I finally succumbed and blew the 212 money (and sale of various other bits) on a brand new integrated amp that I totally don't need...

Picked it up today so it's only been on a few hours.

Sorry I'm late to the party.
With that particular song Tukan is more enjoyable. Why did I even sell my pair?!

And congrats on getting the Nait 50. It's really rocking! I wonder how it compares to the original, and to the Boazu which is in a similar price range as the 50.

Thanks! Yes, no issues with uptempo rock music :)

I'm not sure they are worth comparing to see which is best, only to see which you prefer, if that's what you need to do. As I said to Fredrik on the thread this morning, Lejonklou and vintage Naim are both very musical but to my ears they get there by different paths. Is the 'Learning to Fly' Giella/Monos/Tukan clip above better than the 'All Right Now' 12/160/Keilidhs clip from a few weeks ago? To my ears they are equally enjoyable but also different.

Difficult one. I think the Tukans are better positioned than the 109’s, which should be further from the back wall. If they are, I think they will win.

Tx - I will try and improve tomorrow. They are 22cm away at the moment. I tried further out but not much more.

OK, more than I thought! Might already be optimal then. Anyway I found both to have their strengths.

Thanks beck and Tendaberry!

Here's the 109s at 26.5cm (wall is wobbly so never 100% exact).

Congratulations from me too.

I know the toucan very well. After all, she played brilliantly over a long period of time in a 200 square meter loft with a ceiling up to 11 meters high. It actually filled the room and was later briefly replaced by a Neat Petite, which then gave way to the briks. The chain was then an LP12/Ekos Troika prefixed in Naim's 52 and 135 monos on mana. But they could also get 72/140 to sing. I will probably never know how the new Nait 50 sounds. But the clip gives a very good idea.
