Matt
I have not heard 3677s but my experience is all speakers are affected by finish, paint, or coverings changing their sound.

There is no information stating "3677s are designed to be placed behind cinema screen..."

From their web page; "Shallow profile cabinet minimizes behind-screen space requirements." This in no way implies this speaker was designed for a "cinema" or a "home cinema" let alone behind some sort of screen. I get the impression this speaker was designed for maximum performance and it just so happens it performs well in other environments.

I have listened to speakers behind and afront a screen. Hi-Fi Hierarchy always applies, not just if there is a screen.

Sorry Ron, but I think you missed a couple things such as:

"The 3677 screen channel system provides natural sound quality for music and dialog in small cinema applications with convenient all-in-one enclosure."

Or the fact that the heading for the page is Home/Products/Cinema Market/3000 Series/3677.

And to be honest the sentence you quoted: "Shallow profile cabinet minimizes behind-screen space requirements." pretty much says it all by itself.

Tom,
I have missed nothing. You cannot quote anything which shows that JBL designed the 3677 to sound best behind a screen. I doubt they did any design or testing behind any screen at all. If you really believed this, you would have a large screen in front of your speakers and you would have posted on this forum about the twenty different screen materials you compared to find the best one.

I have been in dozens of cinemas over the years, both commercial and home. Not once have I ever seen side or rear speakers encased in screen material to match the front speakers (or speaker, when L & R are mounted beyond the screen) even when the same speaker model is used in all locations of the cinema.

Read my entire post. It is bad advice to paint or cover with screen material any speaker without knowing the results it will yield. No one on this forum has done this with positive results of the 3677. mattias and Music Lover certainly haven't.

Either my upgrade fever took over or Marco is a good sales person. Anyway I ordered a pair of Sagatun Monos now to complete my system :)

No disrespect to Marco, rather respect to Fredrik, but comparing Klimax & Sagatun pre-amps, the Monos sold themselves and that was the 1.0 version. Enjoy the 1.3s and the music. Congratulations :)

Short trip to the Netherlands today. Sagatun Monos are in the trunk of my car. Can't await to get home to install them and power them up.
Really appreciated that Marco drove towards my direction so that we could meet in the middle. Excellent service as always.
I just wonder what the inhabitants of that small town think of us. For the second time there are 2 cars from outside that meet on a parking, open their trunks, exchange items and drive away in opposite directions again :)

First impression: Thank you Fredrik! The Sagatuns are definitely a great achievement. I have never heard my M140s perform this perfect. No idea how long you had them running in your lab, but today after installation, I knew immediately that they are better than my KK/1. The first notes played made me smile instantly. I still can't believe how big a difference this is. Didn't imagine that your pre-amp could have such a big impact, as the KK wasn't a bad pre-amp after all. Not only that they are far more engaging, but they make it easy to follow all the instruments. You can even hear or concentrate on details, that you didn't catch before.

Thank you Christian!

I've been looking forward to your report. Glad to hear they make a strong impression right away!

Your Sagatun Mono's ran for around two hours in the lab. I make sure they're fully heated up before the adjustment of the last parameter and when that's done I let them play for a while. I usually like to fiddle with something else, some manual task that I know so well that it's almost automatic, while my mind is tracking and feeling the music. If something isn't right, I can feel it right away. But if it feels good and becomes difficult to switch the music off, then the units are ready to be packed down and shipped!

The Sagatun-Tundra combination really lets you enjoy the music. The biggest change for me is the fact, that now after changing the preamps, it is the first time that I completely ignore the "hifi-element" and fully concentrate on the music. Before I also used to listen to the sound of my system. I wasn't aware of this and only realized it after changing from KK to Sagatun Monos. Now I listen to the performance of the musicians.
This probably leads to another change I have noticed. If we have guests or during the day I used to set the volume to 40-45, depending on the music. Now I tend to set the volume to 45-50 without that the music is disturbing anyone.

Just signed in and this my first post.

Hi ChrBea,

Have you tried KDS/3 directly connects to Tundra amp without a preamp? How's the sound? I have a KDS/1 and am thinking to upgrade to KDS/3 and get rid of my Kinos.

Thanks

Do not get rid of the preamp! A system with a preamp always sounds more musical to my ears. There may be other persons on this forum more qualified to explain why this is the case, but all I can say is, keep the preamp in the chain

As the 3677 had a WAF of close to 0, I got some nice high gloss white Akurate 242 with black arrays instead. They were bought at a Linn dealer, and according to them they work perfectly.
In my system though, I can clearly hear white noise/hissing when I turn up the volume over 50. Even with a test track that has absolute silence, the hissing can be heard, when putting the ear against the super tweeters (on both speakers). With this test track the hissing doesn't get louder when increasing the volume.
I switched from M140 to A242 without making any changes at all. And on the 140s the hissing was not audible.
Any idea what else could cause this white noise?

High gloss white speakers sounds cool.

I think the noise you're hearing is from the amps. The noise that is constant is mainly from the power amps. The noise that increases with volume is from the output of the source and the input of the preamps.

Shouldn't be louder than that you need to put your ear close to the tweeter or supertweeter. I'm certain it can be heard on 140s as well.

Well, as I haven't posted in a while, here's an update on my system:
Klimax DS is no longer my main source. An LP12 has been added.
  • Trampolin baseboard
  • Kore sub-chassis
  • Black Klimax Radikal power supply and motor
  • the new Majik (Jelco) tonearm
  • Adikt cartridge
Phono stage is currently a Gaio2 until Slipsik 7 will be available

That's a nice LP12! Probably how I'd start myself if I bought a new one. Radikal, Kore, OK arm and Adikt.

The first batch of Slipsik 7 are shipping soon! All of them are pre-ordered.

Please let us know what you think when you've heard it!

...saw Slipsik 7 'in the flesh' and heard it against a 6.1 in Hamburg.
Its a bigger step in my opinion! It makes an Adikt sing!
I bought a Krystal a few weeks ago, but if I still had my Adikt... I would have ordered a #7, period.
