That clip is using the Hakai, and I haven't upgraded the main board yet so it should get better.

Re: ThomasOK's System

Since the heading is "Me and My System" this seemed the most appropriate place to post something that is predominately about me. I haven't been on the forum lately and have gotten a couple of PMs about it so I thought I'd just post an update here.

This is my first partial day back at work in the last week and a half and my first day back on the forum too. I have had two surgeries in the last two months after not having one for about 59 years previously. In the first week I had a TURP procedure (prostate) that was supposed to have me out of the hospital one and a half hours after the surgery. There were complications (nothing life-threatening) that kept me in the hospital for 4 days. The day after I was released I was being driven to Chicago by a friend so that Fredrik and I could spend the next four days doing the Axpona Hi-Fi show and demonstrating the SINGularity MC phono stage to much positive feedback. I had to take time for a nap each day but we all made it through OK, though a bit weary. We were treated to a major spring snowstorm on the last day which had my friend and I closing down a bit early. Luckily Fredrik was also booked on an early flight out as several people I talked to later were stuck overnight when they closed the airport!

Then a week and a half ago on Friday I had my hemorrhoids removed. With hindsight I would have to say this is the more difficult of the two surgeries and it is taking longer to heal. I just saw the surgeon for a followup yesterday and everything is progressing as it should, but I still have a few weeks before I am back to 100%. Between the two surgeries (I notice they prefer to call them "procedures" now. I suppose it sounds less intimidating, unless you understand the lingo.) I had my six month checkup with my regular doctor and everything else health wise seems to be good. So hopefully by the time July rolls around I will be fully functional and I am hoping not to need the use of a hospital for another 59 years!

I am back working part days for now but with luck may be able to come back full time next week. Some of this was mentioned on the forum previously so I am repeating a bit here, but this is basically (hopefully) the whole story.

But just so we have something about my system, here is a clip I made a little while ago. The subwoofer setup including the crossover is disconnected, preserving the true separate ground lines for each channel in this completely dual-mono system. I haven't been listening to it a lot lately (or doing much else that requires a lot of sitting) and haven't yet experimented with connecting up the crossover to see what effect it has.

All the best for a speedy recovery Thomas!

That looks like a well behaved dog - but don’t they all when sat happily in their favourite spot.

I really like that system. I’m not familiar with that version and happily listened to it all which is unusual for me. It really doesn’t sound like a stereo recreating music. It must give you a lot of pleasure.

Thanks for the good wishes. Yes, I am quite pleased with it and looking forward to the next little step when I finish the rebuild on the other pair of Quads. The recording is by Madeleine Peyroux off her second album "Careless Love" from 2004. We had the album on a playlist here in the store about a year ago and every time I heard this track I had to stop and listen. It is not an exaggeration to say I bought the album to get this haunting song, but the whole album is quite good. She does channel Billie Holiday a bit but you might as well copy the best.

Here's another wish for a speedy recovery!

And your system sounds incredible! I was totally absorbed from the first note and had to listen to the end.

Best wishes for a complete and comfortable recuperation.
Special edition Quads complete with woofer - did you tune dem with 'the princess' in her favourite position such that the system sounds better with her exactly there?

And a wireless woofer at that. That is only one of her favorite positions and she does not choose it when music is playing. In that case she prefers to be on the floor in front of the speakers - a dog of good taste!

Oh, you definitely know when you're going! I told the guys at work I now realize just how bad calling somebody a flaming a**hole is, having had one!
Thanks for all the well-wishes.

Put your latest clip here on your system tread Thomas.

It is a wonderful testament to why we bother with it all. Mono can be very special indeed! :-)

New lyrics:

She left no time to regret
Kept her nose wet
We went to her old vet
Me and my head low
And my tears flow
Get on without my girl

You went back to where you’re from
So far removed
From all that we had done
And I tread a troubled track
My odds are stacked
I’ll go back to black

We only said goodbye without words
I died a hundred times
You go back to heaven
And I go back to
I go back to
Black
Black
Black
Black
Black
Black
Black

I go back to
I go back to

We only said goodbye without words
I died a hundred times
You go back to heaven
And I go back to
I go back to black

Bella passed away July 5th. My first and only dog, and the best one I can imagine.

I'm so sorry, Thomas. The unabashed love and companionship of a dog is one of the hardest things to lose. I will raise a glass to Bella's memory this afternoon.

So sad to hear it Thomas. I have always enjoyed Bella taking part in your videos.

You know that you have to get yourself a Bella/2 at some point.

It's really sad hearing about Bella, she was always active, curious and loveable whenever I saw her.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. She was a very special dog, very intelligent and happy. It's too soon to think about another dog now. Maybe, but I can't imagine a Mk2 of Bella. Too hard to improve upon.

Here two photos of different sides of Bella, with less darkness than the video (literally and figuratively):
