I still remember running down to a record shop called Listen in Glasgow
to buy Steely Dans latest album.Hearing this solo for the fist time blue me away..here it is played by a kid
Yes, like it, and a good song too. You know, until about 5 years ago, I'd never heard a Steely Dan album. I know - it's bad.
Not a traditional single guitar solo, but a meld of guitar takes, I never get tired of hearing the central guitar section of Hendrix' All Along the Watchtower. From the initial solo, to the quiet moody section, through to a bit of wah wah and then onto the funky uptempo bit - incredible. Played it a million times and it's still amazing. Not many songs have that durability.
Definite +1 on Hendrix "All Along the Watchtower". Jimi did such a fantastic job on that song he really made it his. When I hear Bob Dylan doing it I wonder "Why is Dylan doing a cover of that Jimi Hendrix song?" ;-)
Yeah, I like that one too. I tell what is a great driving song, 'Cowgirl in the Sand', when the guitar bits get going between the verses is great. Love the guitar on 'Cortez the Killer' too - so atmospheric.
Keith Richards on Sympathy for the Devil both the studio version of Beggar's banquet and the live on Get yer ya-yas out still makes me crazy after all these years.
