Yes, and maybe I need to move them out even further. :-)

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
I have my Espeks 453mm + 471mm (toed in) between the edge of the base to the back wall skirting board

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
Well, I am now trying to find the right balance with not too much of it. :-)

Mine are not toed in and only around 160 mm from the back wall to the back side of the speakers at the moment.springwood64 wrote: ↑2022-10-06 11:38I have my Espeks 453mm + 471mm (toed in) between the edge of the base to the back wall skirting boardbeck wrote: ↑ Yes, and maybe I need to move them out even further. :-)

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
I find track B to be more tuneful than track A so I would use that position!
You might try toeing them in a touch so that the inner sides are perpendicular to the back wall and see if you like it.

Thank you for the feedback Thomas. I will try your suggestion.

Now toed in.

It sounds nice and does solve some problems but I really like to more “close mic” feel I get when they are not toed in.
More experimenting is needed for me to be satisfied. :-)

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
I tested 0mm (no toe-in), 12mm, 16mm, 18mm, 24mm (full) and ended up with 18mm (difference in distance to rear wall for inner vs outer corner of the base)beck wrote: ↑2022-10-07 08:52 Now toed in.

After refining toe-in I zero'd the toe-in and revisited depth again and ended up increasing the depth significantly (378mm to 453mm), then restored the toe-in.
My back wall is plasterboard + timber with a cavity and too close produces a lot of boom on the bass. In the right spot the boom drops off really notably.

I prefer zero toe-in to full toe-in, for both. The bass sounds more in tune with zero, to me.beck wrote: ↑2022-10-07 09:15 No toed in (new):

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
Without all the work I have put into setting up my cd player and system it would not be possible for me to enjoy my cd collection and a late 90’s DDD cd like the one below:springwood64 wrote: ↑2022-10-07 09:18

I am happy now. Next move must be to hunt down some cd’s. :-)

Yeah, me too - compared using 'new' toe-in clipsspringwood64 wrote: ↑2022-10-07 09:18 I prefer zero toe-in to full toe-in, for both. The bass sounds more in tune with zero, to me.
Re: Beck and his black boxes.
In this setup I am liking the clips without toe in better.

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
At a concert yesterday evening with Georg Riedel on bas (he played with Jan Johansson on “Jazz på svenska” and ”Jazz på ryska”) and Jan Lundgren on piano. Just lovely. Reminds me that I have to get “Jazz på svenska” on cd. :-)
Georg Riedel is nearly 90! He is known for his music working together with Astrid Lindgren.
He has played together with Stan Getz among others.

This must be near what I can get out of my little system. It has been fun and hard work. :-)

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
Sorry beck but I prefer your original clips. Maybe gone too far away from what you had?

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
Here's a second opinion. I think the later clips sounds great!
So, what changes did you make this time?
(Edit: To clarify. I presumed they're in a A,B,A,B order and with later I meant the B's.)

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
I don’t understand which is which, but I preferred the second clip before the first.
Re: Beck and his black boxes.
I am just playing around with setup as I always do. All four clips are the same setup just recorded from two different angles.
When you have a setup like I do where all small changes matters it is easy to get lost in all the different ways the music can be delivered. :-)
I found myself listening a lot to this setup though it might not be the best.

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
Ah, didn't realise they were the same setup - they look further apart in the second clip. I'm only commenting on the phone position then! Not whether it's better or worse than your previous setup.beck wrote: ↑2022-10-18 08:37 I am just playing around with setup as I always do. No problem Charlie1. :-) I did not explain fully what was going on.
I am really hanging on to this setup. It captures my imagination and I find myself listening and having trouble moving away from the system. :-)

I like it beck, for both tracks, very good!
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Re: Beck and his black boxes.
Thank you Charlie1.
I am done with my CD player setup. My last advice to anyone into hifi is to go with what captures their musical imagination. No hifi is perfect. When you stumble upon a system that makes you fall in love with music keep it “close”. The smallest change can make you loose that love again.
All the best and good hunting! :-)

Re: Beck and his black boxes.
Such good advice. If you are exploring and loving music, your hi fi is perfect for you.
