Anthony (of this forum) has alerted me to the latest Davaar 4.66.255 which he’s currently enjoying, and I have to say, I really like it too.

What have they done to the package names? I have a KRDS1 so was looking for KlimaxDsMk2_4.66.255.zip, but the last one in that naming convention is 4.63.223 - now there's just a bunch of zips starting Fw... but no indication what devices they're for. What's all that about then?

Make sure you opt out of the beta program, then press the update button. Konfig will find it automatically for you.

You can find the correct FW file by looking at the board type for your DS/DSM in Konfig. There is a 3 digit number in the middle of this string which matches the FW file.
I can only assume Linn did this as they changed or upgraded boards without changing the model designation.
PS: doing auto update would take you to 4.67.262 which is the latest production release.

Oops. Thanks Peter. I hadn't noticed that the latest is now .262

Have you tried 4.66.255?

For the Exakt lurkers on here, have you tried 4.67.262 yet?
I think I'm hearing a more insistent and consistent sense of timing. Seems to be driving the foot tapping a bit harder, but without the tiring shoutiness that Naim think is part of that deal.
Anyone else notice anything?

I tried it this evening and it appears to sound really good. I couldn’t go back to check because there was a problem with the .255 file but it certainly sounds very tuneful.

Glad its not just my imagination. That's a few people now seem to have heard an improvement (via other communication methods).

is that only based on experience with Exakt systems?

I tried the latest Davaar on my ADS/3. I preferred 63.233 after going back and forth twice: while 67 has some (minor) additional propulsion, it also has a greater focus on the dominant voice or instrument. But it is not as clean and integrated/homogenous/natural as 63, which makes 63 the one without listening fatigue.

Sorry, no fatigue:-)
"driving the foot tapping a bit harder"
nothing to add!

I don't disbelieve you. The results here seem to vary with the hardware, or perhaps with the rest of the system - my comparison was quite clear, in my system.

This is why I was very clear to say that my observations are in my Exakt system.
I don't think its right to expect that to automatically transfer to non-Exakt systems, and vice versa.
"which is best?" is so context sensitive.

After playing with the latest versions for a while, I’ve gone back to my old favourite 53.125.
My thoughts are, from a musical perspective, 53.125 is more accurate (tune wise) and much more enjoyable.

Does anyone got the 53.125 for ADSM?
Since it was a beta it is no longer downloadable.

I presume that 4.53.125 came out before Kat. Therefore not an option for some of us.
I get the impression that the recent firmwares, at least for my ADS, sound rather similar.
As does the very latest 4.70.300. Perhaps I am getting unexpectation fatigue.
Bit of a habit updating all the time. I do not need the latest features.
Anyone got a recent favourite I "should" be sticking with??

I’ve stuck with 67.262.
Tried some of the later releases but fairly quickly go back. I tend to download all releases, beta and production, so I have them in case somebody says one I haven’t tried is good. But mostly I just don’t try them as there have been no new features that I must have.
Problem will come when I want a new feature but don’t like the sound of the release.
Edit: I should have said I have a Katalyst KDSM and run non Exakt.

I’ve got Katalyst and Exakt Akudoriks and still use 53.125, although I do wonder for how long 53.125 will remain viable. Konfig reports that the speakers and firmware are ‘in an incompatible state’ and I can’t make any changes to the Exakt filters. The solution to this is to upgrade the firmware to the latest version, make changes then revert back to 53.125. Since I hardly ever need to adjust the filters, this isn’t really a problem, and sound quality is more important to me than any additional functions Linn might add, so I’m happy with the way it is.
