It has been a little while since I ran 4.9.7 so I can't really state the differences between that release and the 4.10.x / 4.11.x series, but I'm running 4.11.4 on my Klimax Renew and would tend to agree with Salty. Not sure how easy it'd be to get a copy as it has been superseded... I haven't tried the official Davaar 11 release to say if there's much difference between the penultimate beta, 4.11.4, and the final release of 4.11.5 Otherwise, there are many who stand by 4.1.10 (?) and some who like one of the releases in the 4.7 series...

One can find many beta firmware for DSs thanks to Peter and Phil.

4.11.4 is the best available on my KDS. YMMV. Its worth trying them for yourself.

Yes, there is a database problem that I'm trying to figure out. When posting, one gets an error message that should be ignored. Instead of trying again, just go to the forum index and you will find your new post, marked as unread.

Sorry about this!

It has been a while since anybody has commented here. Has anyone tried Davaar 12? I believe the latest released version is 4.12.357. It would be interesting to know if there is any feeling about how musical it is compared to the preferred Davaar 11.

I had a new ds alongside mine (4.10.2) I found the new one more enjoyable. I then updated to 4.12.357 and found them extremely close in performance.
Without further tests, I would conclude I am happy with the latest software.

anthony, you not using 4.1.10? Most agree that is the most musical firmware.
Care to compare 4.1.10 with 4.12.357?

Hi Music Lover

Yes 4.1.10 is great, but does not offer full functionality. If I find myself listening for many hours each day, then I am happy to accept that particular software. I have enjoyed 4.10.2 as I am the latest version.
At some point I will cross reference to 4.1.10.
Just trying passive Akubariks so focus is elsewhere!

I installed it today and first impression is that it's as least as good as 4.1.10 but I will go back within a few days to confirm it.

What is PC?

My favourite to-date. Very musical and toe tapping imo
Less digital but I am using an RDS.

Went from 4.1.10 to 4.12.357 and they are very close in musical performance.
Davaar 12 is more detailed and have less bass. Would have liked a bit more bass.
Jury is still out but I think Davar 12 is slightly more musical. Just a tiny bit.

Going to compare with 4.12.328 when time permits.

Have you tried 4.3.3 (KDS)?
I found it much better than 4.12.357 and a little better than 4.1.10.

Thanks

Hi Nicolav,

No, I'm not sure I tried 4.3.3.

I did go back to 4.1.10 however and then switched to 4.12.357 again and I have to say although 4.1.10 initially felt musically at least equally satisfying it was also obvious that the reason I thought that was because 4.1.10 just muffeled the sound in a pleasant way. I do not think 4.1.10 actually is better, it just leaves the listener to add what is missing, though in a polite way so that it is not disturbing me. 4.12.357 on the other hand just gives me what I would otherwise add myself, se when going back to 4.1.10 I missed the effortless representation of the music. 4.12.357 is musical AND detailed, without ever being over-analytic (is that the word for it?).

Time for updating this thread?

Reading my notes I haven't compared firmwares for a year...running 4.12.357 since summer 2013
Have any of you compared with later firmwares? Example 4.14 and 4.19.
Some "tune demmers" consider them good.

The last two of really good performing were 4.19.797 (hope I recall the # correct...) and the official Davaar 24!
In fact #24 worked astonishing well on my SetUp (KRDS0/KK1 into tuned Keltiks).
Davaar 25 is another game imho.
I'm just playing around with the new toy and therefore its hard to say how it would compare to #24 or the other one suggested above, because I didnt run it a long time w/o Spaces, but my initial thoughts were: its a step back!

I used 4.14 for a long time - very happy that it was better than earlier versions. 4.19 was the first subsequent version to match it IMO, with much tighter bass, but 4.22 was even better, and is my current favourite pending experience with 4.25. 4.23 and 4.24 were not good.

Like most people here I've also found 4.12.357 and 4.1.10 to be the best last two firmwares. 4.12.357 has performed so well, I must admit, I haven't looked for a replacement since it came out.

I'm now on 4.25.1134, but only because I've recently changed from an ADS/1 to KDS/0 and wanted to try SPACE. So, although I haven't done a direct firmware comparison, KDS/0 + 4.25.1134 is quite a bit better than ADS/1 + 4.12.357. I appreciate this doesn't help much, but it may indicate that it's worth a try. If I ever get round to it, I'll try a direct comparison myself.

Not to say I have taken the time for a real evaluation.

4.23.1042 is playing happily on mine. The newest was not better in any way.

I am kind of hooked on Tidal. This setup is as good as I have had with Tidal. Musically interesting and satisfying.
