PROBLEMS WITH,.Linn Basic Plus tonearm

Post by Peder »

Hi 🙂...
In addition to my LP12,.I have an Axis with a Basic plus tonearm on it.

I have now noticed that I seem to have a problem with the anti-skating.
If I change the setting on the anti-skating,.the sound changes, read, the music from my Axis.

I've read somewhere before,.that it could be the anti-skating spring that's malfunctioning.
Does anyone here know anything about this,.and how I can fix the problem.?

This is actually normal, getting the anti-skating exactly right, improves the musical performance of a tonearm. The music is easier to follow, the rhythm is more natural and toe-tapping etc.
Have you tried balancing the Basic Plus, removing VTF and setting anti-skating to 0 and then tried blowing on the tonearm to see if if moves in one sweep? Or does it get stuck/sticky somewhere?

It is also my experience that the anti-skating on the Basik Plus will often sound best right around the 1 gram setting when the cartridge is tracking at around 1.75 grams. Best to try different settings and see what is the most musical.
