I agree - nice job and it looks very good. If I had a 2K array speaker I would certainly look hard at doing this.

To each his own. I think the speaker looks much better unpainted.

I used Tamiya model paint. The particular shade is a matt black called Rubber Black (XF-85) which is meant for painting tyres on model cars but matches the rubber surround of the bass drive unit very well...
Hi

Judging by the photographs, that paint was a great find (not necessarily just for speaker projects) so thank you for posting about it.

As to the 2K Arrays; over the years, I've had many Linn speakers from Kans, through Isobariks, Keltiks and now 350s (and in my second room, Nikas and now 212s). I've always liked the look of the Linn speakers, but I reckoned that I just couldn't sit looking at these silver 2K Arrays in the non-circular black scoops (to me, the combination just doesn't quite work). I often wondered if black might make them more acceptable (to better suit my own tastes), so it is great to see what you have achieved with them (and yes, if I had speakers with 2K Arrays, I'd now be seeking out some of that tyre paint to make them less 'tyresome' to look at; that now looks pretty cool, IMHO)! :-)

Extremely beautiful. Big improvement. And nice pictures. Thanks!
Can you comment on the brush used? Flat shape or pointed? And what size?
And how is the surface treated before painting? Just wiped or also sanded?

I cleaned the surface thoroughly with kitchen cleaner (without bleach). No sanding as I don't know what is under the silver and I didn't have a test area.

I masked it all up thoroughly.

I used a revell model brush:

I found the paint dried quite quickly and to get a good, even, finish one had to work fast and smoothly. I started with the delicate areas around the mesh grilles and then filled in the rest with strokes, being sure to always work in the same direction.

I let it dry for about 2 hours between each of the 3 coats.

As a first attempt, and considering I was prepared for it to look a bit amateur, I am very pleased!

Hi
I am about to Aktiv my 109's with a C6100 using a Majik DSM (not the latest version). Can I ask if there was any conclusion to the best place for the foam and wadding in the 109 speakers. I have read the forum but there appears to be no definite recommendation. I would appreciate your advice on what is best to do.
Cheers

Hi Sybarite!

The foam block should be away from the port.
