Marine wire

Post by SaltyDog »

Has anyone tried using marine grade wire for speaker wire?

It is multi-strand copper with each strand individually tinned with silver from end to end.

Anchor is the brand I'm familiar with.

I've not tried anything myself.

Or did you mean speakers?

My speakers are keltiks using 2 x k400.

I meant cables. Even with a very similar construction, two cables can sound completely different.

Sorry, never tried anything by Anchor.

Why do you want to replace the K400? Because you want something better sounding or better looking?

I have no reason to change the k400.

Just something to mess about with. It is the nicest wire I've worked with as far as flexibility and feel. Designed for minimal resistance on safety critical ystems. Some people claim that silver conductors are better. I wonder about the mix of metals too.

What is it about the k400 that makes it special? I can see that twisted pairs kept parallel, and good quality strands would work well.

I guess I'm wondering what makes one wire better than others. How much do electrical measurements correlate to musicality.

I do too. Well, not much from the little I've seen.

If I understood more of this, I would first of all try making a better interconnect than Linn Silver. But as it is now, cable development is too much guesswork and endless trial and error for my taste.
