Katan xover network order

Out of curiosity, what type of xover network order design is used in Katan's internal passive xover?? Just got my new subwoofer and want to match its phase delay to the Katans.

I will tune it using the tune method but I just want to try this before spending too much time tweaking back and forth. :mrgreen:

Second order rolloff on both. I think Butterworth, but not 100% sure about it.

But if you want to match the phase to a subwoofer, the low end phase of Katan (driver-enclosure-port) should matter more, no?

And how do you match that to the phase of the sub? Should perhaps the phase of Katan's port at resonance match the the sub's phase at or a bit below that frequency?

Sounds complicated, but I like that so please tell if you draw any conclusions!

I got a nice tip on a 'Home Theater' forum about setting the subwoofer phase which I think is quite good, but you need a calibrated microphone (which I have), a PC and a real time spectrum analysis software (REW which is free).

After completing your 'isolated' calibration (souncard-only and souncard-mic) do the following:

1. Invert the polarity on you main speakers.
2. Run your sweep tone at the main speaker xover frequency multiple times while adjusting the phase on the subwoofer each time.
3. The reading where the SPL level is the lowest (null) at the crossover point in the correct phase delay setting for your subwoofer. On the Katans Linn says they go down to 75hz in passive mode (which I assume is the crossover point), but my SPL readings indicate otherwise since it shows they got down to 55hz before sloping down (at least in my room).
4. Invert again the polarity on your main speakers.

Now it is a matter of just playing with the subwoofer 'gain' to get it 'in tune' with the Katans.
