Re: Latest records to enter your collection
Matteo, considering the last five records you've bought, I'm starting to wonder if you are trying to buy my whole record collection! (Although I don't have the Bryan Ferry.) Lots of great music there.

Carole Bayer Sager - Sometimes Late At Night. A wonderful album of songs co-written by Bacharach amongst others. The musicians are stellar. If buying the digital version avoid the original CD version by Boardwalk records. Wiki says it is prone to CD skipping and has bad packaging with incorrect information. The deal breaker for me is it's the only CD I have that plays the left channel out of both speakers. Sort of fine had it been a mono recording. The Japanese remaster matched up with the vinyl. Such a pity Gemm.com disappeared - it was a great source of original vinyl.
Fleet Foxes - Shore. As good as anything they've released and that's an accomplishment of note.
2020 sucks in some ways but the amount of great albums appearing is marvellous to see and hear.

Listening to that on Qobuz now, it's very good indeed. I used to own Carole Bayer Sager's first album and played it quite a lot in the late 70's, but it was stolen out of my basement a few years back :-(FairPlayMotty wrote: ↑2020-09-24 22:59 Fleet Foxes - Shore. Stealing music is disgraceful - I have to try that one. She's a very good songwriter.Tendaberry wrote: ↑2020-09-25 11:21Listening to that on Qobuz now, it's very good indeed. Between here, Twitter musician friends, close friends, my favourite Glasgow music shop and my kid I get a regular supply of new music ideas. You can't have too much music. Software for the soul.

Ella Fitzgerald The Lost Berlin Tapes 1962.
If you are an Ella fan this is jazz singing at its best. So much energy. Not sure it warrants issuing in hi-res, but well recorded and stored!
Listening to it on Qobuz.
Supposedly found in Norman Grantz's vault.
I wonder what else is there.
If you can, do give it a listen.....

Re: Latest records to enter your collection
Two Frank Sinatra records, the first is a great collaboration from 1967 between Frank and legendary Brasilian songwriter Antonio Carlos Jobim. I found the original US issue in NM (with misprint) for a mere $ 4,- :-)
The next one is the follow-up, that almost wasn't released, it was, however, in 1971. A few 8-track tapes and an acetate of the original album named Sinatra - Jobim escaped in 1969, before the release was canned and the tapes were recalled by Warner Brothers, these are now very sought after. Prepare to part with more than $ 5.000,- if you manage to find one of them...

Those look pretty good Tendaberry! So I just bought the first one and have a bid in on the second one. I also just purchased jazz pä ryska yesterday so I have some nice new vinyl coming in!
donuk also got me all excited about the Ella Fitzgerald Lost Berlin Tapes 1962. So I started looking into it and was already to buy one on LP until I read a really positive review of it! Why did a positive review cause me to cancel my order? Because they went into the history and explained a couple of the head honchos at Verve recently found the tapes sealed in their boxes. Upon opening them they found the recording was in both mono and stereo and they were in excellent condition! Doesn't sound too bad. But then we get to the part where they decided to use some newly developed software to bring her voice forward and fill out the bass! :-( You take an excellent analog tape from 1962 and run it through some software so you can mess it up. No thanks. So I am now looking for a good original copy of the earlier Ella in Berlin concert.

That sounds great, Tom! You're probably right about Ella (I've only heard it digitally so far). Once you've heard what digital remastering does to a recording, you don't want one ever again, if it can be avoided.ThomasOK wrote: ↑2020-10-06 18:23 Those look pretty good Tendaberry! Acquiring Roy Halee productions. Halee produced/engineered albums I love hearing. Puzzled by Halee's role with Graceland. I read he went to South Africa with Paul Simon. They produced magic.
Nile's debut is new to me. He's talented.

Re: Latest records to enter your collection
Coming to this late and too many to mention as I'm a crate digger as well as buying new.
However, have of this minute placed an order with HMV for Arcade Fire Funeral and The Stooges eponymous 1st album. Oh yes.
2 for £30 atm. Not as good as their 2 for £25 last month where I picked up John Martyn Grace and Danger and La La Land OST.
