Man, I haven't listened to BS&T in years. I did enjoy it back in the day.

Israel Nash's new one, this time with soul influences, very, very good

Dr. John's legendary album finally as a US original, sounds much better than my 1986 US reissue.

That's a very clean copy of Sun Bear concerts and explains why it was a big box for two titles. I hope you like it.

Thank you Tom, I do like it so far (two sides in). It's not a clean copy, it's a re-issue, apparently still full analogue. I thought I couldn't afford it when it was first released. I still think that, but In the interim I've learned to ignore my rational mind. :)

That's a nice find David, and it's unfortunate he can't play anymore. I've never seen a copy of the Budapest Concert album before.

Yes, very unfortunate. I remember seeing the Standards Trio in London a few years ago, and thinking how fit, sharp, and disciplined they all were despite age. Both albums are just released this month.

That would explain it. I have an original I have owned from new. The vinyl is perfect but the jacket picked up a couple stains somewhere along the line and the glue inside dried out and separated from the front cover.

This entered: https://shop.abbeyroad.com/Vinyl/*/Catc ... QDL00001RC .

A disappointment, somewhat dull... not as enjoyable as the scratchy used item I already had. Seems like I never learn not to look for remastered, or "special" issues.

The originals go for silly money (>€ 200,- for a decent copy), but this pressing sounds very good for a lot less:

Over lockdown, this label has been getting a good share of my wallet: https://www.gondwanarecords.com/

I have a lot of Nat Birchall's music, a connection stemming from him presenting a Linn Lounge on John Coltrane at House of Linn about seven or eight years ago. The Linn rep couldn't make it and Nat stepped in, using the Linn notes as a basis to give his own commentary and views. I'd been listening to Coltrane for five decades and came away with completely new insights on Coltrane, plus Nat's latest LP (it seemed rude not to...). One of the benefits of a Linn dealer hooked into the local music scene.

So via Nat BIrchall, I've found Matthew Halsall, and then Mammal Hands. Gondwana operates via Bandcamp, as does Nat Birchall, so when I buy the vinyl I also get downloads in whatever format I want. And lockdown has seen vinyl represses of much of the back catalogue...

Currently listening to Mammal Hands/Shadow Work. If the phrase "spiritual jazz" sounds interesting to you, then please investigate. If the phrase puts you off, well, investigate anyway! And I've only mentioned my highlights - there is more!
