has someone tried to solder a S/PDIF cable with a piece of Linn Silver?

I have not - but things to take care are:
impedance of the cable should be 75 Ohm (as well as connectors)
with S/PDIF shorter lengths are usually not preferred - optimum length is 1.5 Meter (at least that was 7-8 years ago)
