Hello,
I am long time LP12 user and I’ve been reading here with great interest posts on torque methodology. I got Sturtevant Richmont CAL 36/4 tool and need to get hold of proper drives for specific LP12 screws. I’ve spent the whole morning all over the net but either I put wrong words or it is indeed hard to find parts. I wonder if any of you guys help me out here. I am after the drive/socket for top plate bolts screws - I know I need to get at least 8mm deep drive which is M5 (5mm ext diameter?) but what external diameter should it have to fit the hole in the block? Please point to the place in Europe where I can get correct one.

Re: LP12 torque tools
Hello booker and welcome to the forum!
What you're asking about is one of two parts I've found rather difficult to find. And I'm afraid I don't know where to send you, because I happened to find mine in a free set of tools I got from some company. The walls of the socket I got were rather thick, so I had to lathe its outer wall down until it could easily fit through the holes in the subchassis.
I seem to recall Thomas O'Keefe also searching a while before coming up with a suitable long socket.
The other socket which took a while to find was the one that fits the nuts holding the AC motor from below. It had an odd size.

Re: LP12 torque tools
It is a tough one. I even went to the specialist store here in Warsaw and they do not have such a socket and they had no clue where I could find it. It is quite frustrating I must say.
Re: LP12 torque tools
If you look at Linn's hand tool for this job, they have welded a standard socket to the end of a tube.
Re: LP12 torque tools
There must be some manufacturer somewhere that produces such piece. Are there only 3 people on earth that measure torque of LP12 top plate bolts?
Re: LP12 torque tools
I have actually never developed a torque for those bolts. This is in part because I feel they need to be really tight and partly because of the difficulty in doing it due to how long the bolts are, as you have found. However, I would certainly not want to dissuade anyone from investigating another possible torque. So out of curiosity I did some looking to see if anybody made a socket deep enough, because all the deep sockets I had come across aren't adequate. I did find one company who makes an extra-deep 8mm socket and it is available on Amazon.com. Here is the link to the unit:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077NTNQJR/re ... g=UTF8&me=
It is a 3/8" drive socket and the adapter most people use with the CAL36/4 is a 1/4" drive so a different socket drive adapter would be necessary. You should be able to find a single unit like this locally but here is a link to highly-rated kit with a bunch of adapters including two for 3/8" sockets and two for 1/4" sockets:
https://www.amazon.com/Socket-Adapter-E ... 22+adapter
Hopefully this will allow you to get what you need. If you do find a good torque for those bolts please let us know.
