New Gold Dream is my fav. It’s one of those albums that plays well from start to finish, without a duff track.

Some of their earlier stuff is good too, like Sons and Facination.

I always struggled a bit with Sparkle in the Rain. Don’t know why. Never liked it as much as some friends. Once Upon A Time onwards didn’t do it for me much, although there are individual songs I like, included some on the live album.

I should try Street Fighting Year’s again, based on your comments Matteo. Not listened to it in years and years. I do recall not much liking the Trevor Horn production.

Street Fighting Years is one of their less commercial album, with several tracks of over 6 min. On Spotify it sound decent (better than vinyl). You need to listen to it several times before appreciating its qualities.

I agree with you, Sparkle in the Rain is bad recorded and with an odd style, I never liked it.

Once Upon a Time and Real Life are commercial records, but with a lot of enjoyable tracks and both well recorded.

Earlier stuff are too experimental for my tastes.

Simple Minds New Gold Dreams is also a favorite of mine but I don´t have good copy of it. It is probably reissue. My kids also love it. It is typical synth music from the 80:s. I also think the Live album "In the city of light" is good, nice recording. I have to get the "Street figting years". Another good song from the time is Shock the Monkey with Peter Gabriel. The LP is quite experimental but that song is really good.

Played this today and enjoyed it much more than I had in the past. Must be the Tundra effect :)

Also misjudged 'Common One' by Van Morrison. Played that this week and it's really good. Don't know why I never liked it before. Very nice recording too.

Which pressing of Common One do you have?

I'm away at the moment but will look when I get back. It's definitely a darkish blue Mercury label though. Very quiet vinyl.

Nope, it's got 'Made in Holland' printed on it and the matrix numbers match this Netherlands pressing:

Stretching the intent of the topic a little, but I just cued up So (on the DS ;) & realised that my digital copy of PG So is the 2012 remaster. Given earlier discussion about this album, on vinyl, I wondered if anyone here had a view of the relative merits of original vs remastered for So on any format, and whether the quality of the pressing (or rip) can be more important than the version/recording that was pressed. Thanks.
