DS: Latest ReadyNAS firmware (release version) available

Post by Briain »

Hi All

After much beta testing (by both Netgear and by many customers like myself) and quite a few revised beta updates, Netgear have finalized the latest firmware for the ReadyNAS series. It might be that you don't wish to change anything if you're simply using the NAS for Twonky/streaming audio (if it's not broken, why fix it) but it does include changes to improve basic things like hibernation (there are still hibernation issues with SqueezeCentre/Logitech Duet, but if the SqueezeCentre service isn't ticked to activate it, it will have no impact on hibernation).

There are no-doubt full instructions on the original installation disk, but it's very easy and thus to save you looking for it, below are the steps required:

Open Frontview, select 'Advanced Control', select 'System' (left menu) and slect 'Update' from the drop-down list. From there, select the 'Remote' tab (it will probably default to that tab anyway) and click on the 'Check for update' button.

After it has downloaded it, you should see it reported as below:

RAIDiator
Version: 4.1.3
Date: Wed Sep 10 04:10:36 2008
Size: 60837376
Description: Release Notes: www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_4_1_3_Notes

You can then select the button to 'Perform system update' and will then be displayed a page stating the below:

Shutdown options are currently unavailable due to an active background task. This page will automatically update when the task is complete. Please attempt the shutdown again at that time.

This will take quite a while (5 minutes or longer) and when it has been fully uploaded into the NAS, you will get a pop-up message asking you to re-boot, and the page will change (automatically) to the usual shut down and re-boot page, where you can select the option to 'Shutdown and reboot device' then clich on the 'Apply' button.

Note 1: If you have any problems with the remote update, you can download the file by clicking here then follow the above steps but select the 'Local' instead of 'Remote' tab, then point to where it has been saved and update it that way; the rest of the process is exactly the same as above.

Note 2: Frontview is available from http://your.IP.address/admin but if you don't know your NAS IP address, it can be accessed by running the RAIDar utility and selecting 'Setup'
