GS108T + MicroConnect Vs GS108 + Meicord

Post by Spannko »

As requested by beck, here's another couple of videos. We've got the GS108Tv2 with the MicroConnect compared to the GS108v3 with the Meicord - both powered with my "shed" PSU.

Text removed as I have mixed up GS108 with GS108T and thereby made the initiative for this "bastard" tread. Sorry! Now I understand Lejonklou's reaction below!

Sorry, I am folding. Changing two things at once didn't help me at all.

In general I don't find that parts work better in specific combinations. Better is better and worse is worse. So I prefer comparing them one by one. With each part optimised, one should gradually feel the level of performance rising.

I am sorry if I ruined a more careful investigation of the cables. Regards

I agree and consequently much prefer the second one.

Quite a difference here, unlike some of the other comparisons.

If the flow and timing feels much better in one clip - I hardly bother comparing the sound, as it can never ever compensate.

Being spoiled with a Sondek and analog recordings I find it increasingly difficult to choose the one without the other.
With what I have heard through the years I find that digital in generel struggle with combining both at the same time.

On these clips I prefer the first clip. This is another one where neither clip has all the characteristics better than the other clip. But I hear the second one as more Hi-Fi and somewhat artificially etched - like some of the expensive cables on the market. So while the first one doesn't seem to have quite as much information I find it to be the more enjoyable of the two.

Lejonklou was right! I mixed up GS108 with GS108T when calling for the above comparison. It does not change anything about the comments being made but anyway. Sorry!

I have muddled things up a bit :-) and feeling myself out on deep water with all this digital stuff!

To Spannko I would like to say that I think you should continue with your preferred GS108, Meicord setup as a reference point and try changing things when it is possible to see if anything gets better.

Beck

Digital no different from Analogue in that - if the change makes it more musical - one should try and adopt it.

Quite a few more bits at the source end to make it more complex, however. The benefits of an easily accessed digital library, throughout the house, is some compensation for this.

A simple digital system carefully installed, and using decent equipment can sound quite wonderful, however ( maybe not LP12 SE / analogue vinyl level) - as long as the recording itself is a good one, and the musicians are talented.

With my Majik LP12- I also find that a good recording by talented musicians is key to the whole process.
