MicroConnect Vs Meicord Ethernet Cables

Post by Spannko »

Here's a comparison between the MicroConnect and Meicord Ethernet cables. Nothing was changed except for the cables and the same socket was used on the switch.

Not easy, but my initial impression (after about two seconds) was that in the second clip (Microconnect), the guitar is more in tune.

After having compared a couple of times more, I feel the same.

Listening directly to my ipad speaker I cannot hear any difference at all.

With earpods I get the same result. I am not able to tell the one from the other.

Had a second listen and I end up agreeing with Lejonklou though this one is too close for comfort. :-)

I also prefer the second clip and agree that there is not too much in it .

However, I definitely prefer it both with iPhone 6 speaker and I phone headphones.

The latter do not make it any easier, which is unusual.

It would be nice to hear your impressions from listening inside the room, Spannko!

I've deliberately been keeping quiet - I don't want to unduly influence the results, given that I have an unfair advantage!

I've listened long and hard to all three components and I'm 98% sure I know which ones I prefer, however I'm always open to persuasion!

I'd like to set up the comparisons again with different music. I'm currently listening to Beethovens piano concertos: I think one of them should work really well.

Given that you're using one of them in your switch comparison, it's not too hard to guess which one you prefer... :)

Listening again now, I feel that the difference between these two clips is actually bigger and more important to me than the difference between the GS108 switch models. I feel there's something missing in the clip with Meicord, but I can't figure out what. Perhaps I'm completely mistaken and another song would help.

OK. I've been rumbled!!!

My preference so far is for the GS108 with the shed power supply and the Meicord.

For me, the biggest difference is between the two switches. I find the GS108 much more entertaining/musical/tunefull . TBH, this concerns me a little bit because I know quite a few people have heard the difference and preferred the GS108T. Maybe I have a faulty one.

The power supplies have the next biggest affect on the sound, but it's not huge, followed by the Ethernet cables where the difference in sound is minimal. However, I find the differences in musicality are quite significant.

I'll make some other recordings to try and demonstrate what I'm hearing.

If I could order a clip I would like to hear Microconnect and GS108T together against your preferred setup, please! :-)
