Espek/Ekwal aktiv setup

Post by tambrose »

I have two 5125s that I'm about to take my Espeks and Ekwal aktiv. The aktiv cards are all stereo.

I listen to music more often than movies.

Any recommendations on where each card should be installed?

Thanks,

I've got the cards and just went tri-amped, which was a huge step up. Can't wait for aktiv.

Anyways, I have 5140 cards and can't recall the gain settings needed for Espeks. I seem to recall plus or minus 1 on the treble and nothing on the bass.

Does anyone know?

Thanks,

Hi Tom,

Congratulations, I'm sure this will be a good improvement.

The default settings for the Espek are "4" on the bass card and "6" on the treble card. AFAIK one step is about 0.5dB on the treble card, and about 1dB on the bass card.

Where to put the cards? I have no idea, but personally I would tend to install the bass cards in a single amp, and the treble+mid cards in the other amp - because the division into bass and treble+mid is is the recommended division for passive bi-amping, too.

If you had no centre speaker and complete freedom to organise the channels, I'd say one 5125 for each Espek is the best option.

But with 3 stereo cards for Espek and one 2-way card for the Ekwal (right?), it's either Treble+Mid and Bass+Ekwal - as Axel suggests - or Treble+Ekwal and Mid+Bass.

I think Axel's suggestion will be the slightly better sounding option.

I had been planning to set it up as Axel suggested.

I think it is the best setup for music and still very good for movies.

Thanks for the suggestions.
