Since some year I have the recommended Netgear switch and the recommended Ethernet cables. The cables are pretty stiff and a bit heavy, and in combination with the low weight of the switch, there's a mechanical problem.
I had a 10cm wooden dice placed on the switch for more than a year to weigh it down. Today I had some spare time and tried removing the dice. It made the switch "float" partially on the air, due to the cables, looked silly but for whatever reason it was better "tune dem". Then I moved the switch around so that the cables rested on the edge of the desk, so the switch lay flatly on the desk - it looked better and was better per "tune dem" as well.
The main support right now is the cables resting against the desk edge and it seems "non-optimal". At any point they might move due to weight and suddenly the switch is floating in mid-air again... I could duct tape it down I guess but...
How have you solved this little mechanical problem?
